Deadpool becomes Scarface in a funny new piece of crossover art. Released in 2016, Deadpool not only finally brought the famously edgy comic book character to life on screen in satisfying fashion, it also helped make super-profane and violent comic book movies commercially viable after years of studios being hesitant to make superheroes anything but family-friendly.

After the first Deadpool soared to $783 million at the worldwide box office, its sequel Deadpool 2 topped that number by grossing $785 million. But fans of Deadpool’s R-rated antics got some apparently bad news when Disney’s acquisition of Fox handed rights to the character over to the studio most known for making family entertainment. Recently however, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige made remarks that should reassure Deadpool fans. Feige confirmed in an interview that even though Deadpool is set to officially join the MCU, the next movie in the series will be R-rated like its predecessors.

Perhaps in celebration of the news that Deadpool gets to still be R-rated even within the confines of the MCU, fan artist Bosslogic has created a new image crossing over Wade Wilson with another movie anti-hero known for his love of sex, violence and cursing – and cocaine. And in a possible snarky nod to Deadpool arriving at family-friendly Disney, the image shows the word “cake mix” emblazoned on Deadpool’s bag of coke (he keeps the cake mix right next to the cure for blindness). Starring Al Pacino as the gangster Tony Montana, 1983’s Scarface of course went on to become an iconic film beloved by wannabe gangsters everywhere. Indeed Scarface and Deadpool have a lot in common spiritually as both are, in their own ways, celebrations of excessive violence and profanity. Though in truth, Scarface is absolutely a more extreme movie than Deadpool, as director Brian De Palma turns the saga of Tony Montana into a veritable opera of sex, drugs, blood and cursing.

Though Deadpool may never have achieved the operatic heights of Scarface, the film certainly staked out a place as a fun and decidedly adult spin on the comic book movie. But now with Deadpool 3 set to be part of the MCU, it’s natural for fans to wonder if the edges will be taken off the character, turning Deadpool into yet another family-friendly Marvel superhero. Feige may have given his assurance that Deadpool gets to stay in the realm of the R-rated, but plans get altered over time, and studios obviously respond to changes they perceive in the market. On the surface it seems like it would be smart business to let Deadpool be the edgy Marvel superhero meant for adults, as that formula has been very successful up until now, but it’s of course impossible to know what conversations are actually going on within the offices of Disney and Marvel.
