Among the many characters that Marvel fans are waiting to see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the Disney/Fox merge is Deadpool, and a theory suggests a fun way to bring him to the MCU through Loki’s Time Variance Authority. Deadpool is one of the most popular and beloved antiheroes from Marvel Comics, so it’s not surprising that there was a lot of anticipation and excitement around his first big-screen adaptation, which, unfortunately, didn’t work out as fans hoped.

Wade Wilson made his big-screen debut in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where he was played by Ryan Reynolds. X-Men Origins: Wolverine wasn’t well-received by critics, and fans quickly voiced their complaints about its portrayal of the Merc with a Mouth, but Wade got a new chance in his own movie. Released in 2016 and simply titled Deadpool, the movie explored the origins of the title character and his first adventures as a chaotic antihero who often breaks the fourth wall and always has something to say about everything and everyone. Deadpool was a critical and commercial success, with praise going towards Reynold’s performance, the movie’s sense of humor, its visual style, and faithfulness to the comics, and so a sequel arrived two years later.

Titled Deadpool 2 (of course), the movie introduced antagonists Cable (Josh Brolin) and Russell Collins (Julian Dennison), along with ally Domino (Zazie Beets). Deadpool 2 was also a commercial and critical success, though some critics weren’t fully on board with the movie’s tone, script, and recycled jokes. Following the acquisition of Fox by Disney, it was confirmed that Deadpool will be integrated into the MCU, so fans are patiently waiting for that moment, so much so that there are already a number of fan theories suggesting fun ways to make Wade part of the MCU. Among those is one that includes the TVA, and here’s how Deadpool could join the MCU through this organization.

Deadpool 2 Introduced Time Travel

Deadpool 2 started with a tragedy: the death of Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), Wade’s girlfriend. After that, Deadpool tried to kill himself by blowing himself up but his healing abilities saved his life, and thanks to Colossus, who put his body back together, he made a full recovery. Deadpool then joined the X-Men and went on a mission with Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead to stop Russell Collins, an unstable young mutant. The mission went wrong and Russell and Deadpool ended up being arrested and taken to the Ice Box. Once there, they came across Cable, a cybernetic soldier from the future who traveled back in time to kill Russell. Deadpool managed to save Russell, but the young mutant overheard him telling Cable that he didn’t care about him (which was a lie to protect him), and so he fled and freed fellow inmate Juggernaut, forming a partnership to kill the abusive headmaster of the orphanage he lived at.

Deadpool and Cable succeeded at stopping Russell but at the cost of Deadpool’s life, prompting Cable to use the last charge on his time-traveling device to go back a couple of minutes and save Deadpool. In the mid-credits sequence of Deadpool 2, Negasonic Teenage Warhead and her girlfriend, Yuko, repaired Cable’s time-traveling device for Deadpool, who went on a wild journey where he saved Vanessa and X-Force member Peter, killed his X-Men Origins: Wolverine version, and shot Ryan Reynolds right after he finished reading the script for Green Lantern. However, the consequences of these jumps through time and space are unclear, and if Deadpool is joining the MCU soon, all these actions would put him on the TVA’s radar.

Deadpool's History With The TVA In Marvel Comics

The TVA made its MCU debut in Loki, and it’s an organization located outside of space and time, and its mission is to preserve the Sacred Timeline by preventing the creation of branching timelines through what they call “Nexus events”. Loki was captured by the TVA and imprisoned due to his actions in Avengers: Endgame, where he took the Tesseract and escaped, thus creating a new branch in the timeline. Now, Deadpool’s history in the comics has been as wild as the character himself, so it shouldn’t be that surprising that he has a connection with the TVA in Marvel Comics.

In 2015, in Deadpool & Cable: Split Second Infinite Comic #1-6, Cable and Deadpool got trapped in a confusing time loop through which they ended up meeting an assassin called Loop, who turned out to be future Deadpool (a variant, if you may) who was sent to kill Cable by the TVA. Loop’s confrontation with Deadpool was also a test for his past self to see if he had what it took to join the TVA, and he obviously passed. Deadpool was then sent by the TVA to kill every variation of Cable across the timestream, while Loop went back to the moment where he attacked Deadpool and Cable to go through all that again, basically living up to his name. Surprisingly, and even though he had some unorthodox ways, Deadpool was a great TVA agent, and he managed to save the timeline through less violent ways.

MCU Theory: Deadpool Is Caught By Loki's TVA

Loki TVA Cafeteria

With Deadpool 2 introducing time-travel to Deadpool’s timeline thanks to Cable, him working with the TVA in the comics, and the TVA now being present in the MCU, many have theorized that the TVA could be used to introduce Wade Wilson to the MCU. Given that Deadpool didn’t care much about the branches that his jumps through time could make (and by then, the whole “multiverse” concept wasn’t a thing yet), the TVA would have surely noticed that someone made some major changes to specific events, and so they would go after Deadpool.

By the end of Loki, the creator of the TVA, He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) was killed by Loki’s variant, Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), prompting the timeline to branch out without control, but when Loki was sent back to the TVA, it was under the control of Kang the Conqueror (Majors). The TVA could have more strict rules to follow with Kang as its leader, so they definitely wouldn’t let someone like Deadpool go that easily – and knowing him, it wouldn’t be surprising if he talked his way out of it or even joined forces with them to save himself from major punishment.

Where Deadpool Could Make His MCU Debut

is Deadpool in doctor strange multiverse of madness

Although Deadpool 3 has now found its director in Shawn Levy, fans are growing impatient as it’s unclear if Wade Wilson will make his MCU debut before Deadpool 3 or in his third solo movie, so naturally, they have come up with different ideas and theories on where he could show up. The biggest rumors around Deadpool’s arrival to the MCU are about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as many fans believe he’s hidden in one of the posters that includes many, many Easter eggs. This rumor has been fueled by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld giving a cryptic response to whether Deadpool is in Doctor Strange 2 or not and Ryan Reynolds reassuring he’s not in the movie – which fans refuse to believe entirely after Andrew Garfield repeatedly denied his involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home only to appear in it along with Tobey Maguire. Given that Doctor Strange 2 will see the title character exploring other sides of the multiverse and meeting some of his variants, it would make sense if he came across the Merc with a Mouth at some point – or, he could have been brought to the Illuminati due to his messing with time.

Another option is Deadpool casually appearing in the post-credits scene of Doctor Strange 2, as Marvel has used these final teases to introduce new characters in some of its most recent movies. Introducing Deadpool to the MCU through a post-credits scene wouldn’t limit the character to appear in a movie that is somewhat linked to him and time-travel, so he could pretty much appear anywhere and it could be justified by him casually landing there thanks to Cable’s time-travel device. Deadpool’s MCU future is unclear, but given how creative this character is and the liberties that brings to the writers, he could appear anywhere, but his actions surely won’t go unpunished now that this universe has organizations like the TVA.
