Deadpool just got a major power upgrade in the form of the Spirit of Vengeance, becoming a new Ghost Rider. However, the catch is that this awesome new Marvel character hybrid is not actually an official character in the Marvel Universe...yet. Deadpool (Spirit of Vengeance) is actually a new character created for Marvel Puzzle Quest, the popular mobile game. However, that doesn't mean that the super funny backstory the game made for this new version of Wade Wilson is any less ridiculous or awesome.

According to his character bio, Wade Wilson was hired one day to take out a popular taco truck vendor. However, any fan of Deadpool knows how distracted Wade Wilson can become due to his intense love for Mexican food. So, when he's offered the vendor's famous "Hellfire" Tex-Mex in exchange for sparing their life, he agrees. In that moment, Deadpool's mysterious client reveals himself to be the demon lord Mephisto. Apparently, the vendor had made a deal with Mephisto and received Mephisto's Hellfire chillies, which was what made the vendor so popular in the first place. To celebrate his success, the vendor started giving away his food for free, but that was not part of the deal made with the demon lord. As a result, Mephisto wanted the vendor dead.

Angered by Deadpool's failure to kill the vendor, Mephisto chose to curse Wade Wilson, bonding his soul with that of the Spirit of Vengeance and making him an all-new Ghost Rider, complete with a taco truck from Hell. Now, Deadpool (Spirit of Vengeance) is tasked with spreading hellfire and punishment as Mephisto wills, as long as he's not bickering and fighting with his fellow Ghost Riders like Johnny Blaze or Robbie Reyes. The announcement from Marvel.com even revealed a really cool variant cover featuring the Deadpool/Ghost Rider hybrid along with the flaming taco truck.

While this is really cool for the Marvel Puzzle Quest game, many fans are no doubt wishing that Deadpool (Spirit of Vengeance) was an actual character with similar origins for the Marvel Comics Universe. Thankfully, there's actually a precedent for that. In 2016, Puzzle Quest created a version of Peggy Carter that became Captain America instead of Steve Rogers to celebrate Cap's 75th anniversary. Over time, this version of Carter made the transition over to the comics and is also going to be featured in one of the episodes of Marvel's What If...? series on Disney+.

It's therefore entirely possible that Deadpool (Spirit of Vengeance) could make the move to the actual comics down the line as well, especially if Marvel sees a lot of positive reception for the character. In the meantime, fans will just have to settle for seeing the Deadpool/Ghost Rider combo in the variant cover and Marvel Puzzle Quest mobile game, providing some pretty cool power-ups and abilities courtesy of his Hellfire Tex-Mex.
