Warning: Minor Spoilers for Deadpool #4

Deadpool has left his days as a mercenary behind (for now) in his new series, and taken the throne as the new King of Monsters. But the job brings a new responsibility to protect his monstrous subjects, and do what is best for Marvel monsters of all shapes and sizes. And that apparently includes the one cosplay no one asked for, but everyone needed. Gwenpool Strikes Again!

Kelly Thompson and Chris Bachalo have taken readers on a wild ride in Deadpool's new series so far. He has come to find a partner in Elsa Bloodstone, claimed the crown as the new King of Monsters through monster rule of succession, and has accused Captain America of being a racist -- before making 'America's ass' official canon. But he also became the primary care giver of Jeff the land shark in the premier issue. A pet and friend he's willing to do anything for.

For those who have not kept up with the adventures of Gwenpool (you really should), she found her own pet land shark who she named Jeff in West Coast Avengers #7. She quickly bonded with Jeff, and he continued to pop up over the course of her solo series. But with Gwenpool's power to break the fourth wall, she know that if she is not in an ongoing series, she will cease to exist. Even more tragic is the knowledge that Jeff would no longer exist, either. Bringing Jeff to stay with Deadpool was Gwen's way of ensuring the Land Shark will cement his place in the Marvel Universe, and continue to exist. As Gwen admits, Deadpool will always be in a series so Jeff will be safe with him. Even better because Deadpool is now the King of Monsters and Jeff will fit right in. While Deadpool has agreed to take care of Jeff, the backup story in Deadpool #4 shows just how far he is willing to go to make Jeff happy.

Deadpool as Gwenpool

While taking Jeff for a walk through the city, they happen upon a shop window that catches Jeff's attention. Like a persistent pup that just saw a bone through a window, he refused to continue his walk and let Deadpool go back to being a King and take care of his other responsibilities. Heavy is the head that wears the crown, and as the King of monsters Deadpool agrees to take care of his little monster Jeff.

Deadpool knew Jeff was sad, that he missed Gwenpool. So when they saw her costume in the store window, Deadpool knew what he had to do to make the little land shark feel better. Deadpool puts on a pink and white costume, and turns himself into a much less flattering version of Gwenpool. However unslightly it may be, the sight of him in the costume lights up Jeff, and the reader is left seeing him grinning from ear to ear.

Deadpool #4 is available now from your local comic book store or direct from Marvel Comics.
