Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick - writers on Deadpool 2 as well as the original Deadpool movie - are ready to take a break from the Merc' with a Mouth for a while. Thankfully, Ryan Reynolds' plans for an X-Force movie will allow them some time to recharge their batteries before starting work on Deadpool 3 - a film that has now seemingly been confirmed, despite Ryan Reynolds' earlier claims that it was unlikely a third Deadpool solo film would be made.

Reese and Wernick are one of the most prolific writing teams in Hollywood. The two first found fame with their work on the 2009 film Zombieland, a dark comedy that ran riot with the usual cliches of zombie movies and television shows. Four years later, the two wrote G.I. Joe Retaliation, a sequel to the first live-action G.I. Joe movie, which was considered far more faithful to the mythology of the classic cartoon series and toy line than the original critically panned film.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Reese and Wernick spoke about their time with Deadpool and their relief at being able to work on something else for a while, as Ryan Reynolds moves on to developing X-Force with writer/director Drew Goddard.

"I think Ryan's kind of justifiably itching to get the red suit off for a few months and just do something else and we are too, and just to clear our heads more than anything," says Reese. Wernick agrees, noting that he and Reese have "written a draft of Deadpool every consecutive year since 2009."

Reese confirmed that the two writers had been working on Deadpool scripts virtually non-stop for the better part of a decade. He then went on to describe the tight timeline under which Deadpool 2 was produced. Reese said:

"Last time we literally started Deadpool 2, the script, before (the first) Deadpool even came out, so we never got a break. Even when we were on the Deadpool press tour last time to release the movie, we were going back to our hotel rooms writing the script for Deadpool 2. So we never really got a real break from Deadpool."

While Wernick and Reese are relieved to enjoy "a summer of no Deadpool," following the release of Deadpool 2, they will not be resting on their laurels despite not being involved in the pre-production on X-Force. The two are already hard at work on a sequel to the original Zombieland, which could be in theaters as early as next year. The two are also scheduled to write the scripts for Reynolds' remake of Clue - the classic 1985 comedy based on the board game - and Michael Bay's upcoming film 6 Underground.
