I think it’s a tightrope walk. I mean most of these movies are always a tightrope walk of tone, so in this instance, though, you have a collision of two pretty iconic characters that exist in the Marvel Ancillary Universe [laughs] — we’re in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at this point

It’s really kind of finding a way to service both of these characters that feels extraordinarily authentic to each of them, and I think these two wrongs actually will make a right in a pretty great way.

Reynolds & Jackman Are Already Proving This Can Work In Real Life

This isn't the first time Deadpool and Wolverine will share the big screen, although precedence doesn't help in this particular challenge for Deadpool 3. Shortly after the MCU was born via Iron Man, Jackman and Reynolds already co-starred in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The Gavin Woods-directed flick marked the first live-action debut of Deadpool, but much like the whole film, it was panned. The fact that Fox never made a direct sequel proves how bad it was. From there, Jackman entered the final years of playing Wolverine, while Reynolds got a do-over as the Merc-with-a-Mouth with 2016's Deadpool.

Despite this, the actors' real-life dynamic proves that Deadpool 3 can cater to its goofy and crass titular character and the more serious Wolverine. Somehow, their characters' personalities are reflected in Reynolds and Jackman's friendship, particularly in how they tend to rag on each other. That's evident in their fun social media banters, which have been very entertaining to watch. Suppose Marvel Studios' Deadpool 3 story leans on that and capitalizes on the pair's natural chemistry with each other. In that case, there's a good chance that the audience will positively respond to the movie.

With Deadpool 3 not slated to premiere until 2024, it's safe to say that getting official information about the film is still a long way to go.
