Hugh Jackman reacts to rumors that he will appear in Deadpool 3 by posting a new photo. Deadpool 3 will mark the introduction of Deadpool to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (Deadpool had originally been part of Fox’s X-Men franchise). The three-quel is directed by Shawn Levy, who previously directed the Night at the Museum trilogy and last year’s Free Guy, which also starred Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds will return to Deadpool 3 alongside co-star Leslie Uggams. Other casting and plot information has yet to be confirmed.

However, rumors have been circulating lately that Jackman may appear in Deadpool 3 as Wolverine. The rumors flared up when Jackman posted a photo of him looking surprised at something on his phone. Despite the nondescript, mundane nature of this photo, many people on the internet took this to be some sort of hint at his return speculation. Given how Logan ended, this would seem incredibly unlikely. This did not stop fans, however, from posting GIFs of Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth and theorizing about Jackman’s potential return.

Now, Jackman reacts to these fan theories by posting another photo on his Twitter. This time, Jackman’s photo is just him wearing a t-shirt and sweatpants, staring at the camera with a furrowed brow and one hand on his hip. He captions the photo “Let’s see what rumor the look on my face starts today…”

Jackman’s retort to the growing Deadpool 3 fan theories and rampant speculation is certainly a humorous approach to the situation. The newest photo is seemingly as innocuous if not more so than the original picture. However, Jackman still leaves the caption and content of this photo notably vague. While his comment suggests that fans made a big leap from his previous picture looking at a phone to thinking that he appeared in Deadpool 3, Jackman does not confirm nor deny his appearance in the Deadpool sequel.

Thus, even with his comedic response to recent rumors, Jackman still leaves the possibility of his return open. Given recent unexpected appearances from former actors in other MCU films, Jackman’s return would not come as a complete surprise. Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire both appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home despite denying initial rumors, and Patrick Stewart appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. These recent appearances prove that the MCU often embraces callbacks to previous films, including bringing in actors from previous films. For now, viewers are still left in waiting in advance of Deadpool 3’s eventual release.
