Ryan Reynolds opens up about the complications of including Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in Deadpool 3. After years of clamor from fans, Jackman is finally un-retiring as the Adamantium-wielding mutant to join Reynold's Merc-with-a-Mouth threequel directed by Shawn Levy. Set to release in 2024, Deadpool 3 is slated to start production before the summer of 2023, but while filming is still ahead, Reynolds is looking back at the process of getting Jackman to join the film, and it sounds more complicated than initially perceived.

Speaking with Collider, Reynolds opens up about adding Jackman's Wolverine in Deadpool 3. While initial reports claimed that it all boiled down to the Australian actor changing his mind to revisit his Marvel role, Reynolds shares that Feige and his team had to sort out many other complications to make this dream team-up a reality. Luckily for fans, Marvel Studios was able to cut through all the red tape. Read Reynolds' full quote below:

It's not like adding Hugh Jackman to a movie like this is a hard sell. It's an immediate and emphatic, unqualified yes. It's a lot of moving parts and Fox and X-Men and all that kind of stuff that Marvel needs to sort through. A lot of red tape in order to make that happen. And they did it.

Is Marvel Studios Using The X-Men More Complicated Than It Seems?

X-Men MCU

After Disney's acquisition of Fox's TV and movie assets, Marvel fans zeroed in on the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and all their tie-in characters joining the MCU. This means that, after years of being separated, they can finally interact with the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and their other allies. It sounded straightforward, but Reynolds' recent revelation makes it seem like it isn't as simple as that. Instead, Marvel Studios still have to go through several hoops to fully utilize the X-Men in the MCU. It's curious if this is the reason why it's taking a while before Feige can lay out their plans for the mutants.

For what it's worth, sorting through all the red tape could very well be worth it just to see Jackman reprise Wolverine in Deadpool 3. The actor is synonymous with the role, and there had been persistent clamor to see him not just team up with the revamped version of Deadpool, but also be in the MCU. That said, this doesn't guarantee that his impending appearance on the threequel will be satisfying to everyone. But, if anything, it could be additional motivation to ensure that Deadpool 3 doesn't drop the ball when handling Wolverine, knowing what it took to see Jackman again in the role.

For now, Marvel Studios and Reynolds would understandably be conservative when talking about plot specifics for Deadpool 3. But with filming inching near for the threequel, more details will be inevitably revealed, whether that's through an official release or content from the set of the movie. In any case, given Reynolds' penchant for genius marketing, expect that he will come up with interesting ways to promote the project.
