Deadpool 3 will be the first in the franchise to be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and there's one theory about the TVA's involvement potentially fixing three possible issues the movie could face. The TVA was first introduced to the MCU through the Disney+ series Loki and helped explore the concept of the multiverse that is intrinsic to Phases 4, 5, and 6 in a much more digestible way. By utilizing the TVA, Deadpool 3 could avoid some of the pitfalls that audiences have been worrying about with the character's move to the MCU.

One of the few things that have been confirmed about Deadpool 3, outside of Shawn Levy directing the film, is the appearance of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in the MCU for the first time. The TVA could alleviate any worries about Jackman's return through variants, as well as easing worries about the film lacking its R-rated nature from Fox's franchise. On top of this, the TVA could be a way to continue Deadpool's meta self-awareness with an in-universe reason.

Deadpool 3’s TVA Rumors Explained

Firstly, it is worth exploring where Deadpool 3's TVA rumors originated. While there have been a few rumors from industry insiders, they lack any real source or credibility. However, something from the star of the film Ryan Reynolds himself could shed some light on whether the TVA will appear in the upcoming film. Shortly after some reports that the TVA and a returning character from Loki, Owen Wilson's Mobius, would have major roles in Deadpool 3, a Twitter account emulating Loki's Miss Minutes tweeted Reynolds greeting Deadpool, to which Reynolds replied. This, combined with the reports, are the main reason behind the Deadpool 3-TVA rumors.

The TVA Would Allow For Deadpool’s Meta Style To Continue In The MCU

One of the worries when Marvel Studios announced that Deadpool would be coming to the MCU was that he would be somewhat censored. In addition to his R-rated humor, people also wondered how his fourth-wall-breaking self-awareness would translate to the MCU. Fox's X-Men films had a very confusing, convoluted timeline which provided Deadpool with plenty of ammo for his meta jokes. However, with the MCU having a clear focus on continuity and tone, many wondered how this would be utilized under Disney.

The TVA, however, could provide the exact ammo a character like Deadpool would need to poke fun at his new franchise. As Loki's TVA deals directly with alternate timelines, Deadpool could spend his time traveling throughout multiple MCU multiverses encountering various Marvel characters on the way. This would allow the screenwriters for Deadpool, and the character himself, to continuously joke about his new surroundings just as he did in the X-Men franchise. However, the TVA also provides this meta-humor with an in-universe reason, something that could make the humor feel more natural as opposed to the potentially jarring references of Deadpool and Deadpool 2.

Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Could Be A Variant At The TVA

One other worries that fans of the X-Men franchise had is with the announcement that Hugh Jackman would play a big part in Deadpool 3 as Wolverine. The main concerns came from how Wolverine's story ended, with the Logan standalone movie seemingly ending Jackman's run with the character in an incredibly satisfying and emotional fashion. This led many to call for Wolverine to be completely recast for the MCU, so as to not tarnish the perfect ending of Logan's character. Upon Jackman's announcement of his return to the role, the anxiety began that Deadpool 3 would do exactly that.

However, one of the teasing videos made by Jackman and Reynolds mentioned that Logan from the X-Men continuity was dead and that they were making a concerted effort not to tarnish that ending. With that being said, the TVA can provide the perfect in-universe MacGuffin for Wolverine's return that would not affect the X-Men franchise. The TVA and Loki introduced the concept of variants to the MCU, different versions of the same character from other universes that can look similar, identical, or completely different depending on the universe they are from. Wolverine being a variant at the TVA would then explain both his difference from X-Men's Logan and his identical appearance.

The TVA Could Ease Worries About Deadpool 3’s Mature Rating

As previously mentioned, another fan concern was that Deadpool and Deadpool 2's mature rating would not be allowed or be censored in some capacity in the MCU, despite Disney's continued reassurance that Deadpool 3 will be R-rated. Through the TVA though, there is a neat way that both situations could actually be possible that would fit Deadpool's meta humor. As the TVA deals with the Marvel multiverse, Deadpool 3 could feature its titular character moving through universes similar in tone to the MCU's past, hence the censored side, and also the many R-rated universes through the years to fit with the character's mature roots.

From R-rated universes like Marvel's early Blade and The Punisher films to more mature MCU efforts like the Netflix Marvel shows, Deadpool 3 could include them to feature the more R-rated humor fans of the character have come to expect. Not only would this fit with the MCU's latest saga, the Multiverse Saga, by exploring the vast multiverse, but it would allow the film to poke fun at its new Disney home through funny censorship gags before drastically changing the tone for the R-rated jokes of Deadpool's past and MCU future. This would satisfy both sets of fans of the MCU while providing a neat in-universe reason to explore the disparate tones of Deadpool and the Marvel Studios universe.

All of this only goes to show why the TVA being involved in Deadpool 3 would greatly benefit it. Through this, the film would simultaneously feel like a standalone Deadpool movie, while having the MCU connections expected of the Multiverse Saga. Through the TVA, Deadpool's exit from the Fox universe could be explained, as could his subsequent reentry to the MCU alongside that of a different version of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in Deadpool 3.
