Hugh Jackman shares a funny throwback image with him and Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson following the big Deadpool 3 announcement. While Marvel Studios revealed several plans for MCU Phases 5 and 6 at San Diego Comic-Con and D23, their latest one topped all of them, as it finally fulfilled a longtime wish from not just fans but certain actors. In a surprise announcement, Reynolds shared a video promoting Deadpool 3, which will see Wade join the larger MCU, as the old X-Men franchise came to an end after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox. After years of wanting to see it happen, Reynolds and Jackman confirmed together that Wolverine would appear in the upcoming Deadpool sequel.Despite Wolverine dying at the end of Logan, Deadpool 3 is bringing Jackman back as the popular X-Men hero. Whether it's the same Wolverine that Jackman played remains to be seen, as he might be playing a new variant of the character. While Deadpool 3 had already been announced a few years ago, plot details had been kept under wraps until the actors made this big reveal to the world. Despite setting a release date for 2024, Marvel Studios haven't indicated if it will cap off Phase 5 or begin Phase 6, since it will come out right after the Thunderbolts movie.RELATED: Deadpool 3 Now Carries A Burden The MCU Could've Avoided

It's been more than a week since Jackman's Wolverine return was shared with the world, and fans are more hyped than ever for Deadpool 3. To follow that up, Jackman shares a throwback image on Twitter from when he and Reynolds, in his Deadpool costume, were hanging out together in April 2018. The photo comes from when they filmed a gag birthday video together, with Deadpool continuing to interrupt Jackman hilariously.

It's Unclear If Deadpool 3 Is A One-Off For Jackman As Wolverine

Hugh Jackman in Logan

While it's been highly demanded to see Deadpool and Wolverine team up together, especially after the lackluster X-Men Origins: Wolverine, it's unclear how far the studio will go with the two mutants together. Even though Reynolds is more than likely sticking around in the MCU for the foreseeable future, that may not be the case for Jackman as Wolverine. Prior to the Australian actor signing on for Deadpool 3, he had played Logan for 17 years before wrapping his run in 2017. Given that the Multiverse Saga will culminate with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, it wouldn't be shocking if Jackman at least appears as Wolverine in one of those films after Deadpool 3.

The MCU has already hinted that Wolverine exists on Earth-616, and perhaps that is the incarnation Jackman will play in Deadpool 3, suggesting he will stay in the franchise for a couple of years. Since the actor hasn't definitively stated that Deadpool 3 is a one-and-done for him, anything is possible. It would be one thing if Jackman were asked to lead his own trilogy again versus simply starring in new X-Men films, since mutants are also currently being introduced to the MCU. Depending on how their film does, it wouldn't be impossible for Jackman and Reynolds to continue to appear as Wolverine and Deadpool together in some capacity across the MCU. Time will tell what their MCU adventure has in store for them when Deadpool 3 starts filming in 2023.
