Hugh Jackman assures fans that Deadpool 3 will feature a very angry version of his Wolverine. After becoming a fan-favorite character with the release of 2016's Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds' titular hero returned once more for Deadpool 2. Disney's acquisition of Fox threw plans for Deadpool 3 up into the air, but it's now been confirmed that the film will see the Merc with a Mouth officially join the MCU. The upcoming film will be directed by Free Guy and The Adam Project director Shawn Levy and, much to the surprise of many fans, is confirmed to feature the return of Jackman's Wolverine.

Jackman first played Wolverine back in 2000's X-Men and would reprise the role for a number of sequels and spinoffs. After playing Wolverine for more than 15 years, Jackman seemingly bid farewell to the role with 2017's Logan, which ended with his character's definitive death. Due to the number of questions that accompany his return, Reynolds and Jackman united for a video to jokingly address Wolverine's role in Deadpool 3, affirming that Logan remains its own standalone entity and that the upcoming MCU film is entirely separate with its own timeline.

In a recent interview with AP Entertainment, Hugh Jackman teases what fans can expect from Wolverine in Deadpool 3. While careful not to give away too many details, the star affirms that the character will be even angrier than audiences have previously seen him. Check out Jackman's full comment below when asked if Deadpool 3 could feature a more lighthearted version of Wolverine:

"A what? There’s no choice. He’s definitely the angrier, acerbic, grumpy [Wolverine] and he’s gonna take a lot of free shots at Ryan Reynolds, let me tell you. Physically, that is."

Why Wolverine & Deadpool Are The Perfect Combination

Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in Logan 1400 x 700

The team-up between Wolverine and Deadpool has been a long time coming and fans have wanted to see the two heroes on-screen together for years. Jackman's comment about Wolverine taking "free shots" at Reynolds' Deadpool hints at part of what makes the duo so exciting, with both heroes boasting healing abilities and entirely different personalities. While Wolverine is very no-nonsense and straight to the point, Deadpool is constantly joking around, which sets the two characters up for conflict almost immediately. The fact that they both can heal from nearly any injury also means their fights can be brutal and bloody without permanent consequences.

Many questions remain about the upcoming film, but writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have previously affirmed that Deadpool 3 will be rated R. Logan, which is also rated R, previously showed off just how violent and angry Wolverine can get and Jackman's recent comment certainly suggests Deadpool 3 will hold nothing back in this regard. It remains to be seen how the dynamic between Deadpool and Wolverine will be brought to life in Deadpool 3, but the film is already shaping up to be one of the most exciting entries in MCU Phase 6.
