Morena Baccarin reveals she is still waiting for a call about Deadpool 3. As Vanessa Carlysle, girlfriend to Ryan Reynolds' foul-mouthed Wade Wilson, Baccarin has been a key part of the Deadpool franchise up until this point. She starred in the two previous Fox films, though her screen time was significantly lowered for the second. 2018's Deadpool 2 featured a controversial plot point where Vanessa was killed off, leading many to accuse the film of resorting to an outdated trope known as "fridging." However, the many post-credits scenes for Deadpool 2 then reversed Vanessa's death and gave her a second chance at a better storyline.

Right now, many are waiting on concrete news about Deadpool 3. Thanks to the Disney-Fox merger, the fourth wall-breaking character now resides under the Marvel Studios banner, meaning Deadpool 3 will officially be an MCU production. That led to some concerns over whether it would keep its R-rated humor, but Marvel head Kevin Feige has promised it will. Deadpool 3 has been in development since late 2019, and Reynolds has given sporadic updates since then assuring fans it is still in the works. Most recently, Reynolds' collaborator on recent films like Free Guy and The Adam Project, Shawn Levy, signed on as director.

Baccarin recently spoke to SYFY WIRE while promoting her new NBC series The Endgame, and she touched upon whether she will be returning for Deadpool 3. At this point in time, Baccarin is in the dark like most fans are. "I haven't gotten that phone call yet," she said. "But maybe soon." This echoes the position she was in almost two years ago, back when the film was more of a question mark.

Wade gives Vanessa a candy ring in Deadpool

Though this may spark some concern in those who hope to see Baccarin return for Deadpool 3, there isn't reason to be seriously worried just yet. Levy confirmed recently that Deadpool 3 won't begin filming this year due to his packed schedule, so there is still plenty of time for the script to be finalized and Baccarin to come back on board. Considering the great lengths Deadpool 2 went to just to bring Vanessa back to life, it would be a shame if Baccarin wasn't invited to return for its sequel.

In addition to Reynolds and Levy, the only names Deadpool 3 genuinely has attached are Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, the screenwriters. The MCU currently has a number of movies in development with only a handful of people known to be involved, and Deadpool 3 just might be the most anticipated one out of all of them. With Levy's schedule so busy and the MCU working towards a number of finished products, it still might be some time before further details about Wade's next big screen adventure are revealed. Hopefully, future casting announcements will confirm Baccarin is back for another round as Vanessa.
