Ryan Reynolds says that prior to Disney buying Fox, Deadpool 3 would have seen Wade Wilson and Wolverine go on a road trip. After the first two Deadpool solo films proved to be critically-acclaimed box office successes, the franchise seemed poised to continue with a bright future. However, Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox (which became official in 2019) threw a monkey wrench in any plans, raising questions about what would become of the property. It's since been revealed Deadpool 3 will take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it isn't expected to begin filming until 2022 at the earliest.

It'll be interesting to see how Deadpool is integrated into the MCU (and if there are any fun crossovers), but it's also hard not to wonder how Deadpool 3 would have turned out if Disney hadn't bought Fox and the series remained a separate entity. Viewers probably have their own ideas on how the movie might have looked, and Reynolds himself has a pretty compelling pitch.

On Twitter, Reynolds tweeted in support of #BellLetsTalk to help raise mental health awareness. In his post, he shared what the plot of Deadpool 3 would have been if the Disney/Fox deal never happened. Take a look at it in the space below:

It is important to note that Reynolds is almost definitely joking here. The actor is known for injecting his sense of humor into social media posts, such as claiming he used Spider-Man movies to get Deadpool 3 greenlit or finding funny ways to sell his Aviation Gin. This ultimately feels like Reynolds riffing on fans' desire to see his true version of Deadpool team up with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine onscreen, which didn't come to pass (they did co-star in X-Men Origins: Wolverine). Reynolds, of course, is famous for his ongoing "feud" with Jackman, so this could be him trying to get a rise out of Jackman. Perhaps Jackman will respond with his own mental health message and further "details" about the scrapped Deadpool 3 concept.

Jackman's Wolverine obviously died in Logan, so him coming back to life for a road trip in Deadpool 3 wouldn't have made much sense (and also undercut the emotion of his sendoff). That being said, Reynolds could eventually find himself teaming up with a different Wolverine since the MCU is going to reboot the X-Men at some point. That has the potential to be highly entertaining, especially with Deadpool's penchant for breaking the fourth wall. It'll be interesting to see how Deadpool 3 actually turns out when it hopefully comes out in a few years, but odds are it won't just be the two fan-favorites embarking on a road trip.
