Deadpool 2 Will Not Recast T.J. Miller Following Allegations

X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner doesn't expect to recast T.J. Miller in Deadpool 2, despite the allegations against him. The ongoing tide of accusations of sexual assault and abuse has led to several actors losing their jobs, being recast or otherwise removed from movies and TV shows. Kevin Spacey being replaced with Christopher Plummer in All the Money in the World is one of the more recent and perhaps most famous example of this happening. However, there's been no hint of Miller losing his spot as Deadpool's quasi-BFF, Weasel, despite similar allegations having come out against him of late.

There's been rumors of Miller's inappropriate behavior for years in Hollywood, but it was only recently that a woman came forward claiming the Silicon Valley actor assaulted her in college. Miller has denied these charges, but it sounds as though the unofficially-titled Deadpool 2 may wind up keeping the actor in the movie for another reason altogether.

In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, X-Men franchise producer Lauren Shuler Donner said the Deadpool 2 is almost completed. As such there's no real chance that Miller, despite the serious allegations, will be recast. When asked directly, Donner responded "We’re in the final editing. I don’t think so.”

Of course even if Miller remains in Deadpool 2 that doesn't mean he will stay in the franchise for the long haul. Miller could easily be written out of any future Deadpool sequels. Though these projects aren't announced yet,  they are an almost certainty given the first Deadpool's financial and critical success. Yet on that front, Donner is also unsure. It will be up to Disney, the new owner of Fox, to determine if Miller has a future as Weasel. "That’s a whole studio thing,” Shuler Donner explained. “I don’t know.”

This is far from the first time that the X-Men franchise has had to handle a sexual abuse scandal. X-Men: The Last Stand director Brett Ratner has also come under fire for his behavior, which includes outing The Last Stand costar Ellen Page on set in front of the entire film's crew, as revealed by Page herself.

Ratner is, sadly, not alone. Frequent X-Men films director Bryan Singer has also had several scandals follow him recently. Like the aforementioned Spacey, Singer has been accused of engaging in inappropriate sexual behavior with underage men. While he's currently facing a major lawsuit for engaging in sexual activity with a 17-year-old, there are several equally problematic stories surrounding Singer. For related reasons, Singer has removed himself from Legion season 2 as a producer.

For now, however, it appears that T.J. Miller's spot in Deadpool 2 is safe and that he won't following in Ratner and Singer's footsteps, whether that's the right thing to do or not. The ultimate decision will be up to the audience who pays to see the movie.
