The Merc with a Mouth is back with Ryan Reynolds starring in the first teaser trailer for Deadpool 2. 20th Century Fox captured lightning in a bottle last year when Deadpool hit theaters. Following years of development spearheaded by Reynolds and "leaked" test footage, Fox greenlit the R-rated action comedy. Deadpool went on to make become the highest grossing R-rated movie of all-time, ending its run with $783.1 million worldwide. These record breaking results made it no surprise that a sequel was put into development and is set to hit theaters next year.

Reynolds is the big draw as he's the familiar element for audiences, but the sequel will introduce Josh Brolin as Cable, Zazie Beetz as Domino, and more. Fans have been anxiously awaiting to see how the self-aware superhero franchise will buck the trends of most sequels, and now the first teaser trailer offers up a glance at what Deadpool is up to next.

Fox released the first teaser for Deadpool 2 today, revealing the first official footage from the sequel. The footage reacquaints viewers with the Merc with a Mouth, while also teasing the shenanigans that he will get involved in in the sequel. Presented at first as being a parody of the famous American painter Bob Ross and his TV series The Joy of Painting (with Wade Wilson filling in for Mr. Ross), the trailer eventually transitions into a more traditional sizzle reel of footage from the Deadpool sequel.

Here is the "official" Deadpool 2 synopsis that was released with the sequel's "Wet on Wet" teaser:

After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

It should come as no surprise that Deadpool is taking the unconventional approach when it comes to its marketing already. The majority of the teaser is just latest gag Reynolds has done, while the "synopsis" is far from what anybody would've expected - and certainly not close to the actual events of the movie. What possibly can be taken for fact with the synopsis, however, is what it sets up in the type of story, and not the specifics. Deadpool did just survive his battle with Ajax and may be dealing with trying to be an actual hero, only for his life to get more complicated with the arrival of new characters.

The actual sizzle reel part of the teaser has plenty of moments for fans to chew on. Deadpool is obviously featured in many of the scenes, but Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), Dopinder (Karan Soni), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hilderbrand), Weasel (TJ Miller), and Blind Al (Leslie Uggums) are briefly shown in their returns. There's also a glimpse of Zazie Beetz' Domino and newcomer Julian Dennison, and one final tease of Cable's techno-organic hand reaching for a gun. Fans will have to wait for a proper trailer - if there is such a thing with Deadpool - to really get a better look at the sequel.
