Lewis Tan, who appeared as Shatterstar in Deadpool 2, has an exciting idea for a spinoff film. Though the X-Force character was quickly killed off, Tan thinks Shatterstar's backstory is rich enough for a standalone film.

Shatterstar appears in Marvel comics as a member of the X-Force, an offshoot of the X-Men. He had a quick cameo in Deadpool 2 before meeting a gruesome end by colliding with some helicopter blades. However, Shatterstar's comics backstory is much more developed than what we've seen on screen. Shatterstar is an alien time traveler; he comes from the planet Mojoworld about 100 years in the future. On Mojoworld, Shatterstar was born and bred to be enslaved as an arena gladiator. He was genetically altered to enhance his physical abilities, and eventually escaped his bonds to come to Earth. And it seems that Tan is very interested in that origin story.

Speaking to Comic Book Movie while promoting his new short film Ji, Tan explained his idea for a Shatterstar solo film. He said, "I fell in love with playing [Shatterstar] and would love to do a spinoff where we can explore Mojoworld in a Mad Max meets Gladiator type of way, that would be a dream." Tan sought fan opinion on Twitter by retweeting the article and adding, "Who agrees?"

Tan, who currently stars as Lu Xin Lee on Netflix's Wu Assassins, also had a small but impactful role in Marvel's Iron Fist tv series. Though Iron Fist as a whole was not well received by critics or fans, Tan's appearance as villain Zhou Cheng was repeatedly called out as one of the highlights of the show. Tan is a martial artist who does all his own stunts, and fans picked up on how his fighting skills added to his believability as Zhou Cheng, a member of an evil organization known as the Hand.

Given Tan's skills as a martial artist, his familiarity with the character from Deadpool 2, and his experience with Marvel, Tan makes a strong case for a standalone Shatterstar film. There's no doubt Tan could pull off all the stunts and fighting that would be central to the film, and fans have already responded positively to him as part of the MCU in Iron Fist. Of course, with Deadpool's movie rights returning to Marvel with Disney's purchase of Fox, the future of the Merc with a Mouth has been put in question, much less a character who died in a previous movie.
