Deadpool 2 behind-the-scenes video highlights how violent Cable's action is. Released in 2016, the original Deadpool starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular potty-mouthed superhero proved the viability of violent R-rated comic book films by grossing $783 million at the global box office.

Following on the success of that major hit, Fox in 2018 released Deadpool 2, which was another smash with $785 million grossed globally. Unfortunately, the future of Deadpool as a movie franchise is very much up in the air now that Disney holds the rights to all the former Fox properties. There is of course a very obvious financial incentive for Disney to make more Deadpool films, and those films likely will come in time. The concern for fans however is that Disney will choose to put a more family-friendly spin on the Merc With a Mouth, ruining a lot of what made the first two films fun to begin with.

Besides the R-rated tone and Reynolds’ hysterical lead performance, another big element of Deadpool 2’s success was the performance of Josh Brolin as bruising comic book bad guy Cable. As coronavirus quarantine rolls on and everyone keeps releasing previously unseen and unheard material to help distract the increasingly bored populace, Brolin has dropped some fun BTS footage of himself rehearsing a very violent Cable fight scene with a stunt performer. See the video in the space below:

Brolin’s video of his Cable stunts may not be as hilariously awkward as Tom Hardy’s recent release of his own pre-CGI footage of the epic final fight from Venom, but it’s still certainly entertaining. Among other things, the clip shows exactly how much strenuous work is put into choreographing fight scenes in movies, as Brolin gamely practices a series of moves called out to him by someone off camera. Even the cameraman is totally committed to the rehearsal, as he shifts around in concert with Brolin and the stunt performer’s graceful series of moves. Slowing things down like this also really points up how violent the fight scene was.

Watching Brolin’s performance in the clip indeed demonstrates why actors who take on roles in big action movies commit themselves so thoroughly to getting in shape. Obviously, being buff helps with the physical appearance of the character – and Brolin is indeed very buff as Cable – but being in top condition also helps when it comes to the rigors of rehearsing and later performing all the many stunts that help make movies like Deadpool 2 so entertaining for audiences. Hopefully, Disney will somehow find a way to keep Deadpool alive without removing the R-rated elements, so fans can be treated to more of Deadpool, Cable and company’s violent and hilarious antics.
