A lucky fan is invited by Ryan Reynolds to the premiere of Deadpool 2 after the actor came across a funny video of him asking to see the sequel already online. Following the massively successful debut movie of the Merc with a Mouth, it's a no-brainer that Fox quickly greenlit a follow-up that will see the return of Reynolds as the character alongside some familiar faces, as well as new ones like Josh Brolin's Cable and Zazie Beets' Domino. Not much is known regarding the film's narrative but based on its first trailer, we can expect another fun and innovative marketing campaign that is as good, if not better, as the movie itself.
Stars inviting fans to their films' premiere is not necessarily a new thing. Just last month, both Chris Evans, who plays Captain America, and Mark Ruffalo, who plays Bruce Banner/Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, invited two different bullied boys to the premiere of Avengers: Infinity War in Los Angeles. Now, Reynolds does the same thing, albeit funnier and true to his wise-cracking/smartass superhero character.
Replying to a funny video of a fan who had just had all four of his wisdom teeth taken out, Reynolds took it upon himself to ask him plus one guest to the May red carpet premiere of the still-untitled sequel. In the clip, James D. Eversole, Jr. was obviously still groggy when his wife decided to film him for fun. While he was mumbling most of the time and didn't really know what was going on, it was impressive that he was very adamant about not missing Deadpool 2, proving that even that state, he was still thinking about the upcoming movie. Check out the hilarious Twitter exchange below:
Years ago, I had my wisdom-testicles removed. I know how painful it can be. Consider this your official invite to the Untitled Deadpool Sequel, James. I’ll see you and a guest in May. #MaximumEffort https://t.co/8XvXHNsw3x— Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) January 5, 2018
At this point, it's already hard to tell whether its Reynolds or Wade Wilson behind the actor's social media accounts. Joining several platforms to promote the first film in 2015, the 41-year-old has been very active on Twitter, as well as Instagram over the last several months, sharing funny bits about his day-to-day life even without any relation to big screen alter-ego. It works perfectly well considering that Deadpool has the ability to break the fourth wall and is very self-aware and Reynolds himself has a great sense of humor. During the height of news with regard to the Disney and Fox deal, he was very candid in his posts, poking fun at the groundbreaking acquisition that would lead to the X-Men and Fantastic Four joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It will be interesting to see how Fox's Marvel properties are integrated into the shared universe at some point in the future. Many were initially skeptical about the merger considering Disney's usually wholesome projects, something that Deadpool is obviously not with its raunchy and unfiltered humor. But it's difficult to think that the House of Mouse will not capitalize on the fan-draw that a character like the Merc with a Mouth has. The company's CEO, Bob Iger, even said he wants to make Deadpool sequels moving forward. And with Reynolds' perfect casting, it's safe to say that as long as the IP exists on the big screen, he will remain the actor behind the character.
