Deadpool 2 Extended Cut's FOUR New Post-Credits Scenes Explained

Deadpool 2: The Super Duper Cut includes four different post-credits scenes - two variations on moments from the theatrical release and two brand new "Baby Hitler" stinger. Each one changes the extended sequence and, indeed, the meaning of the movie.

It's fair to say Deadpool 2 already had one of the best-ever after-credits sequences in all of superhero cinema. It started with Negasonic Teenage Warhead fixing Cable's time travel device, allowing Wade to jump back through the events of the movie and beyond righting wrongs: he saves Vanessa (something that's confirmed to be canon); helps Peter escape the X-Force massacre; kills his X-Men Origins: Wolverine alter ego; and finishes up by murdering Ryan Reynolds himself before he signs on for Green Lantern. It was a delirious sequence that showed impactful and subversive disregard for Deadpool 2 itself, X-Men continuity, and the star's perceived status.

But that wasn't all. Even before Deadpool 2 released, there were rumors of end-credits scenes deleted from the theatrical cut for being too risque, and now the Deadpool 2: The Super Duper Cut is here we can see them in all their glory. These include the infamous "Baby Hitler" scenes, but also some sly adjustments to pre-existing scenes that point in some very interesting directions.

Peter Mid-Credits Scene Change: X-Force's True Purpose

Peter was the breakout star of Deadpool 2's marketing, with Rob Delaney's decidedly un-super member of X-Force who fought melanoma with the same ferocity as Cable winning fans over for his savvy social media presence and complete unsuitability for the movie at hand. In the movie, his role was rather slight; Peter was killed trying to save Zeitgeist from a wood-chipper, plastered with the mutant's spitting acid.

However, Peter was saved by Wade in the post-credits stinger; Deadpool jumped back into the scene of the X-Force deaths and told Peter to go home. In the theatrical cut, he convinces him by simply saying "We're not, there's no X-Force". The extended cut, however, adds in a fourth-wall smashing addition: "Nope! We're not. X-Force is just a marketing tool designed by Fox executives to keep Josh Brolin employed. It doesn't exist."

This is a blatant callout to how the X-Force were built up in Deadpool 2's trailers as a key part of the film, only to be humiliatingly killed off ten minutes after their introduction, with an added swipe at Josh Brolin taking on the role of Thanos and Cable. It's not clear why it wasn't included in the original version, although presumably would have been a bit raw for audiences who'd just had the rug pulled from under them. It's also a little misleading: while this X-Force was a marketing tool, there will be a real team with that name coming in Drew Pearce's X-Force movie, currently in the development. The last laugh may be on Wade.

Wolverine Mid-Credits Scene Change: Will Logan Be Back?

Ryan Reynolds finally got to atone for the bastardized Deadpool of X-Men Origins: Wolverine in the Deadpool 2 post-credits scene, interrupting the maligned prequel mid-finale to riddle the topless, katana-armed version of Wade Wilson with bullets, much to the surprise of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman, repurposing footage form Origins). The theatrical cut has him make a quick joke about fixing the timeline (a nod to the muddled X-Men continuity) before stepping away for more adventures.

The Super Duper Cut, however, includes a franchise-shattering tease. After the timeline gag, Wade references Wolverine's death in Logan and then teases a potential return:

Wade: "Hey! It's me! Don't scratch! Just cleaning up the timelines! Look, eventually, you're going to hang up the claws... and it's going to make a lot of people very sad."

Jackman: "Huh?"

Wade: "But one day, your old pal Wade's gonna ask you to get back in the saddle again. And when he does, say yes.

Jackman: "Oh, right."

The implication, of course, is that Deadpool will coax Hugh Jackman back for one more go around as Wolverine, possibly in some variation of X-Force. However, this would go counter to much of what Jackman's said regarding his retirement from the X-Men (and is questionable given the wider franchise's future at Disney), so is quite possibly more a troll than a tease. As for why it was cut, this likewise strikes as something a little too overbearing straight after the movie's release, but fits perfectly in the extended cut.

In addition to the changes to the previous Deadpool 2 mid-credits scenes, there are two additional scenes that have been the topic of much discussion; they were first rumored in the week leading up to release and screened to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con. Now, they're fully available to the public - and there's more than people expected.

The first scene will be familiar to many. Taking place right after the Green Lantern script shoot, it sees Wade explore the eternal time travel question and try and kill baby Hitler, averting all the horrors he wrought. He travels back to am 1889 nursery but struggles with the morally tricky task. Eventually building himself up, he leans in to smother Hitler while bolstering himself saying "maximum effort".

It's a dark scene, especially after the more jovial sequence prior, so it's understandable for this to be cut for the theatrical release. That said, that difficulty it is kind of the point; that debate and the question of change (something Deadpool 2's time travel rules leave open to debate) are a fundamental time travel dilemma. And, suitably, the answer isn't as clear-cut as it seems...

While the smothering is the end of the main mid-credits scene, Deadpool 2: The Super Duper Cut has one more surprise in store at the very end. This reveals that Deadpool couldn't actually bring himself to kill Hitler, instead playing with the baby before relaizing little Adolf needs changing. Wade changes Hitler's diaper, remarking "That’s why you’re such a little bastard, no one’s ever changed you!" The stinger ends on a slightly more morbid note, with Wade saying he'll go get Cable to finish the job, adding "He has a real way with kids".

Tucked away at the end it may be, this takes off a lot of the edge of the baby Hitler scene, showing Deadpool not able to go through with it. The Cable reference, though, keeps things open: the entire plot of Deadpool 2 followed Nathan Summers trying to kill a child - Russell Collins aka Firefist - and so is the right man for the job.

Like much of the Deadpool 2: The Super Duper Cut, these post-credits scenes fit the "bigger and better" adage. None of them are essential - the film worked totally fine on its own - but each makes the sequence that little more self-aware, that little more teasing, and that much more risque.
