Negasonic Teenage Warhead is getting an upgrade in Deadpool 2. The Merc with a Mouth is gearing up for his return with Ryan Reynolds debuting the first teaser trailer for the Deadpool sequel earlier today. The trailer is as unconventional as they come, with most of the time given to Reynolds' impression of Bob Ross. Eventually, the teaser did show off brief snippets of footage from Deadpool 2, and in doing so, offered up the first looks at many of the familiar faces that are set to return.

One of the returnees is Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead. The young mutant had a decently important role in Deadpool, but was still a trainee of Colossus'. Now that she's back once again - looking cooler and caring even less than before - the sequel will show why she's been promoted from trainee status, to possibly a legitimate X-Men member.

Colossus actor Stefan Kapicic spoke to THR about the trailer dropping and was asked about where the movie picks up with his former student. As teased by Kapicic, Hildebrand's character is no longer a trainee, with him teasing how she's been upgraded for the sequel.

She's progressing, as you can see. She is not my trainee anymore. She definitely has approached the new level of X-Men as you can see. Even the haircut, all of the characters … the good thing is we have upgraded on so many levels.

Since Kapicic doesn't come right out and say she's a member of the X-Men team, it isn't clear exactly what type of promotion Negasonic Teenage Warhead is getting. The trailer doesn't offer up any looks at how she has progressed with her powers, but her nonchalant and borderline annoyed approach to being a hero still looks to be there. If she is no longer the trainee of Colossus, it is possible the sequel could show her doing her own thing for a bit, or be setting up the character for a bigger role than previously expected.

With Deadpool 2 sporting a bigger ensemble than its predecessor, there will hopefully still be plenty for Negasonic Teenage Warhead to do. Her relationship with both Colossus and Deadpool was one of the many highlights of Deadpool, and it would be a shame if that was not as prevalent in the sequel. That may be a very real possibility however - especially considering the trailer didn't even include Colossus at all. Almost every other cast member was included (or at least teased), but more of these characters will surely be included in the rest of Deadpool 2's unique marketing campaign.
