It should come as no surprise to anybody, but Deadpool 2 is now out in theaters and smashing records like its predecessor. Although it might not be as big as the other Marvel film that came out last month, the movie starring the Merc with a Mouth has unseated Infinity War from the #1 spot at the box office!

It's hard to believe that the original Deadpool was almost never released; the executives over at FOX refused to green light the action comedy despite the pleas from Ryan Reynolds and Tim Miller. What finally broke the camel's back was when a snippet of test footage leaked to the public and got an enormous positive response. Even then, FOX set the movie to be released February - hardly blockbuster season. There, it broke several records and has spawned a sequel as well as a potential X-Force film!

Fans and critics alike are hailing Deadpool 2 as a solid follow-up to the hilarious first film. With a plethora of new characters added to Deadpool's world and a story filled with meta jokes and confusing time travel shenanigans, fans all across the internet have created hilarious memes to celebrate the Merc with a Mouth's second outing.

Here are 20 Crazy Deadpool 2 Memes That Only True Fans Will Get!

Deadpool Hearts Colossus?

Love Interest

Part of what made the first Deadpool flick such a hit was the chemistry between the titular character and the straight-edged X-Man, Colossus. The Russian strongman was a standout from the first film after being underutilized in the rest of the X-Men movies; throughout the film he kept trying to get Wade Wilson to give up his reckless and violent ways and become a bonafide member of Xavier's team, much to Wade's dismay. Though Deadpool eventually realizes that he needs Colossus' help if he wants to save the day, he still refuses to join up with the "boy band" in the end.

Things change in Deadpool 2, however. After a terrible tragedy befalls Wilson, he decides to finally embrace the hero within and join the X-Men - though he still only gets to interact with Colossus and Negasonic. After slipping up on his first mission, any chance of Wade as an X-Man is all but forgotten. Near the film's climax Deadpool once again asks for Colossus' help, this time parodying Say Anything to get his attention. When the Russian finally arrives to save the day, Deadpool (not in his right state of mind) expresses his emotions for the big Tin Man once and for all.

This meme uses the "Confused Anime Guy" template to show how confused Wilson is about his love interest for this film.

Wade's not the only one who's confused, though - when he visits Vanessa in the after life, she warns him against romancing Colossus.

Every Marvel Fan

Deadpool Upset Infinity War

It's hard to argue that Avengers: Infinity War wasn't the most anticipated movie of 2018 or even the most anticipated movie of the decade! Everything that has happened within the Marvel Cinematic Universe so far had been leading up to this one film; ten years of storylines and characters finally converged as Thanos and his Black Order appeared on Earth to collect the final few Infinity Stones. What followed was an epic movie worthy of the hype, and it destroyed nearly all box office records and completely blew away fan expectations. Even though Avengers 4 is on its way in just a year, it's still too far away!

In the meantime, Deadpool 2 snuck its way into direct competition with the Avengers franchise by being released just two weeks after blockbuster hit theaters. Even though Infinity War had been hyped up for years, the excitement for Wade Wilson's new movie seemed like it could be a legitimate competitor for the title of "most anticipated film of 2018." This meme (based on the Distracted Boyfriend meme) pokes fun at the idea that fair-weather Marvel fans are quickly forgetting about Avengers: Infinity War now that the shiny, new Deadpool 2 has come along.

Zip It, Thanos!

Brolin Deadpool

If you know Deadpool at all, you should know that his whole thing is making meta jokes that break the fourth wall. Thanks to the insanity that comes with his healing factor/cancer combination, Wade Wilson realizes that he is just a fictional character in a comic book and acts accordingly, poking fun at the writers or things that happened within the pages of other comics. This character trait spilled over into the Deadpool movies, as well. Wade constantly refers to other movies and acknowledges that he is played by Ryan Reynolds. The inclusion of Josh Brolin as Cable in Deadpool 2 opened the door for a million other references.

On the actor's birthday last year, Ryan Reynolds tweeted out a picture of Deadpool recreating the famous "Rockwell Paints Rockwell" painting by drawing a portrait of Cable. Of course, the image on the canvas was none other than Brolin's character from the '80s adventure film The Goonies! The reference is included in the film as well when Wilson refers to Summers as "One-Eyed Willie" (the pirate from Steven Speilberg's film).

In this meme, Deadpool's portrait joke is taken further by acknowledging that Cable is played by the exact same actor who portrays Thanos in the MCU.

Instead of Brolin's Goonies character, the portrait is of Thanos. To make things even more meta, Deadpool is shown as Bob Ross, as he was in the very first trailer for the movie. Talk about a fourth wall break inside a fourth wall break!

Isn't That a Little Derivative?

Wakanda Forever DP

X-Force was Marvel writer Rob Liefeld's answer to the X-Men in the late '80s and early '90s. The writer and artist is notorious for creating characters that are horribly over the top, with powers such as "luck" or temporary time travel and who are about as edgy as you can get. On top of that, the character designs are ridiculously proportioned and they always seem to be wearing more pouches than they could possibly need!

In the pages of X-Force, dark antiheroes like Cable, Domino, and Deadpool would often get together to go on top-secret missions that were too shady for the X-Men or the Avengers. This team wasn't afraid to get their hands dirty and eliminate their targets whenever they were tasked with doing so.

Deadpool 2 sees the introduction of the X-Force in the form of a team Wade Wilson puts together to stop Cable. In the film, the team consists of Domino and then a bunch of D-listers who are played by B-list actors; without spoiling the rest of the movie, the group ends up getting into some hilarious scenarios as they try to carry out their mission.

On the plane before the group is about to embark on their first journey, Wade huddles them all up and informs them that they are forming the X-Force, complete with their own special signal. The only problem? The signal Wade uses is the same one that is used in Black Panther for the battle cry of "Wakanda Forever!"

Again With the Martha Jokes

That's Just Lazy Writing

We all knew that Deadpool wasn't going to avoid poking fun at Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Despite DC's best efforts, the movie was fairly disappointing to comic book fans, with characters who didn't act like their comic book counterparts, confusing plot points, and a schlocky CGI climax that left audiences feeling unsatisfied.

The most cardinal sin the film committed, however, was its solution to the titular bout. As Batman stands over Superman, about to impale him with a Kryptonite spear, Kal-El shouts out that he needs to save Martha. Bruce Wayne, realizing that the two characters' mothers have the same name and that he is no better than the man who destroyed his parents, drops his weapon and the two become allies.

Fans across the world thought this was a laughable explanation and rightfully mocked the turn of events. Deadpool 2 definitely made sure to lampoon the ridiculous scenario by having Wilson use the excuse "I was fighting a caped [hero], but then I discovered that his mom was named Martha too" when explaining to Vanessa why he was late. This meme takes things a step further by combining the "that's just lazy writing" running joke from Deadpool 2 with the terrible scene from Batman v. Superman.

Thank You, Thanos!

Deleted Deadpool

It is no secret that Ryan Reynolds absolutely despised what happened to Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The actor allegedly was almost fired from the role for voicing his displeasure with "Barakapool," a version of the character who had blades that came out of his arms, could teleport, and could shoot lasers out of his eyes. Both Deadpool films have made sure to go out of their way to skewer this version of the character, which is often considered by fans to be one of the biggest missteps in all of the X-Men universe - and that's saying something!

Not long ago, a company that is famous for making cosplay costumes posted a picture of two of their representatives, one in a Barakapool costume and another in a traditional Deadpool costume.

They edited the picture to show Barakapool being disintegrated, just like the characters that disappeared after Thanos' snap in Infinity War, alongside a message thanking Josh Brolin for the act.

To make things even funnier, Ryan Reynold's official Instagram account liked the post! Where to even start with this one? Josh Brolin playing both Cable and Thanos made this quite fitting. Likewise, the fact that Reynolds is so unabashedly hating on the version of Deadpool appearing in X-Men Origins is just the icing on the cake!

Now He Can Really Turn Back Time...

Cher Deadpool

Wade Wilson's relationship with Vanessa is the central plot point of both Deadpool films. In the comics, Vanessa is just a minor mutant named Copycat with whom Deadpool happens to have a fling; here she is the love of his life as well as the perfect complement to his insane behavior and crazy sense of humor.

In the first movie, Deadpool left his love so that she wouldn't have to endure the pain of seeing him pass away from his cancer. After he becomes the Merc with Mouth, he tries to distance himself so that she isn't freaked out by what she sees. In the end he has to reveal himself when she is kidnapped by Ajax, and the two live happily ever after.

Or do they? Deadpool 2 opens with the two characters having been together for awhile now, both adjusting to Wade's life as a superpowered assassin. On their anniversary, Vanessa tells Wade that she's ready to start a family with him.

They have a heart-to-heart conversation about what they should name their children, in which Deadpool claims that he want the kid to be mononymic like Apple or Cher.

This later comes into play with the time travel and use of Cher's song "If I Could Turn Back Time". This meme pokes fun at the joke by pointing out the similarities between the singer and actress Morena Baccarin.

It's all in the bear

Mr. Bean is Cable

When the first picture of Josh Brolin's Cable was shown to us back in 2017, eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice that Nathan Summers had a teddy bear strapped to the side of his belt. Some speculated that the child in the movie (played by Julian Dennison) was actually Cable's or that he was using the kid's bear as a means of tracking him down. Others speculated that the bear belonged to his daughter Hop Summers, a major character in the X-Men universe.

In Deadpool 2, Cable carries around Hope's burnt bear as a means of reminding himself of why he is in the past: to eliminate Fire Fist before he can become a supervillain.

Now, the image of such an awesome, stoic, no-nonsense character like Cable carrying around a stuffed Teddy Bear is pretty funny by itself. Deadpool pulls no punches when it comes to making fun of his new cyborg friend.

In this meme Wade tells us that Mr. Bean eventually grows up to become the time-hopping mutant, based on the simple evidence that they both carry around a stuffed bear.

Does this meme make a ton of sense? Not really. Is it classic Deadpool buffoonery? Of course!

I'll Do It Myself.

Thanos Brolin

At the end of the first Deadpool movie, we got a silly Ferris Bueller parody in which the Merc with a Mouth revealed to us the only small things he knew about the sequel: that it was going to have Cable in it. As far as who was going to play Nathan Summers, the character was more coy, claiming that it could be anyone including Keira Knightley (since she "has range"). In the year between this tease and Cable's casting announcement, speculation ran wild as to who would play the character. Was it going to be Stephen Lang? Pierce Brosnan? Michael Shannon? Keira Knightley!?

When it was finally announced that Josh Brolin was going to be playing Cable, the first thought of many Marvel fans was: "Can he do that?" The actor had already been pegged as Thanos in 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, and the actor had taken on several other comic book roles in Sin City and Jonah Hex. T

his meme plays up the situation by showing Thanos (Brolin's other Marvel character) take on the responsibility of the role. They even mix the two teasers by using an image and the dialogue from the Age of Ultron post-credits stinger!

Spidey vs. Deadpool

Deadpool vs Spidey

The marketing behind both of the Deadpool movies has been incredible. Ryan Reynolds is a huge fan of the character, and jumps at any opportunity to play him. This has led to Deadpool making surprise appearances on talk shows, in PSAs, and perhaps most surprisingly, in a Celine Dion music video. The marketing team has also been incorporating the Merc with a Mouth into other forms of advertising by photoshopping him into various posters for other movies or scenes from popular films. Not to mention, these appearances were often accompanied by text full of double entendres and innuendos.

In the comics, Spider-Man and Deadpool have a very special relationship, to say the least. Wade seems to have a crush on Spidey, but Peter Parker can lose patience with the Merc. This says all you need to know about the character: it takes a lot to get on Spider-Man's nerves considering he's one of the most sarcastic superheroes out there!

This meme places Deadpool into the Spider-Man: Homecoming poster that shows Peter chilling next to the Hudson River in his letterman jacket.

Moments after the picture is taken, Wilson playfully pushes Spidey into the river and reminds us that his movie is also coming soon!

Yentl Go

Deadpool Frozen

This comic shows the Merc with a Mouth taking on the role of Ana in Frozen, who spends years asking her sister Elsa (who is in hiding) to come out and build a snowman with her. Spidey is Elsa in this version of the story, ignoring Deadpool's requests and keeping himself locked up in his room.

It's about as random a comic as you can get, but should that surprise you with Deadpool? Of course, even if it is random, it is quite fitting for the two characters, as Deadpool is an annoyance in Spidey's life and he just wants to be left alone without Wade's random shenanigans.

However, the situation takes on an entirely new meaning in the wake of Deadpool 2. In the movie, Wade Wilson goes on an entire rant to Weasel about how "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" sounds exactly like Barbara Streisand's song crom Yentl.

Apparently, this joke was put into the movie because Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's two young daughters are huge fans of Frozen and watch it on repeat, which led to the actor having the stunning realization that the two songs sound exactly the same.

Marvel's Next Big Hit

Brown Panther

Somehow, 2018 has been the year in which superhero films keep breaking records. Though Infinity War and Deadpool 2 have both been dominating the box office, it all started back in February with the release of Black Panther. The story of T'Challa and his home of Wakanda was beloved by critics and audiences alike, and the first black superhero flick in the MCU was a smashing box office hit! The movie was such a success that the character was retroactively featured much more heavily in the Infinity War marketing, and phrases like "Wakanda Forever!" and "I never freeze" have become household sayings.

Of course, Deadpool 2 wasn't going to ignore such a hit film! Throughout the movie, everybody's favorite cab driver Dopinder talks about how he is done with the driver's life and wants to become a mercenary like his friend Wade. Naturally, this leads to a bunch of hilarious moments in which the other characters laugh his bloodlust off as if it were nothing. That is, until the final act, in which Dopinder comes out of nowhere and runs a man over with his cab; he then proceeds to get out and celebrate the victory, leading Deadpool to knight him "Brown Panther."

This meme takes the joke and turns it into a legitimate MCU poster, superimposing Dopinder over T'Challa's face.

The Duality of Man

Duality of Man Deadpool

The Star Wars fanbase has been divided ever since the release of The Empire Strikes Back. First, "true fans" hated the Ewoks in Return of the Jedi. Then, they thought the prequels were the worst thing in the world. Now, many fans of the Saga are hating on Disney's Star Wars films for being too lighthearted and changing up the lore. Like the old phrase goes, "Nobody hates Star Wars like Star Wars fans!" Love the direction of the newer films or hate them, the debate about their quality is a hot-button issue among moviegoers.

This meme shows us the "duality of man" by giving us a screenshot of the r/movies Reddit page, in which the trailer for Deadpool 2 is posted right about a discussion question about modern Star Wars being too self-referential.

The irony is strong with this screenshot: Deadpool is a character that is all about meta jokes and breaking the fourth wall.

All of these qualities are seen as what makes the series so great! However, right underneath it is a question that criticizes the Galaxy Far, Far Away for doing something similar on a much, much smaller scale.

Nathan's Mom

Sophie Turner Deadpool

Oh dear, this one is a lot to unpack. Sophie Turner (of Game of Thrones fame) is currently the actress responsible for playing the younger version of Jean Grey in the X-Men prequel movies. Though she has only played the character in a single film, she was seen by many as one of the bright spots in an otherwise so-so movie and is slated to play Jean again in 2019's Dark Phoenix. In the comic books (thanks to some time-traveling shenanigans), Cable is the child of Cyclops and Jean Grey who is sent into the future, grows up, and then comes back as an adult.

This meme skewers Sophie Turner's role as Jean Grey as well as pokes fun at her rise to fame as Sansa Stark.

It features Deadpool informing his new partner that his mother (who is doing her best "X-Force" Signal) has arrived to pick him up. He also offhandedly snarks that she should ask her time-traveling son to go back to season one of Game of Thrones and prevent the writers from letting Ned Stark meet his bitter end (which was one of TV's most shocking moments). The meta in this one is so thick that you could cut it with a knife.

Deadpool 2: Return of the Jurassic Avenger

Deadpool 2 LOL

For better or for worse, Deadpool is one of the most random characters in all of comics. Some writers make the mercenary more of a grounded, insane character who obeys the laws of reality but still finds time to make some wacky jokes. Meanwhile, others will have him running around in a bathing suit with a machete and a snorkel screaming "Chimichanga!"

The popularity of the two levels of Deadpool varies greatly, with many fans absolutely hating the "lolrandom" version and some thinking that's how the character should be all the time. However, like all good things, the key is balance. Deadpool is at his best when he has a little bit of randomness mixed in with some clever writing and a good plot.

This meme, however, is all about the random.

It takes a bunch of the famous sequels that came out in 2017 and 2018 and mashes them up into a poster for the Merc with a Mouth's second outing.

Deadpool rides upon one of the velociraptors from Jurassic Park while brandishing a lightsaber from Star Wars and showing off a bunch of over-the-top weapons you'd find in the Rambo or Expendables series. To top it all off, the Merc is wearing a fedora akin to Indiana Jones. Somehow, being Deadpool, this just works. We don't know about you, but we'd totally watch this sequel!

Cable's Revenge

Cable Payback

Ryan Reynolds' present to his Deadpool costar Josh Brolin for his birthday was sweet and perfectly meta in a Deadpool type of way. Yet, the Merc with a Mouth's gift to Cable was still filled with playful barbs towards Nathan Summers and the actor who played him. Cable wouldn't have appreciated being associated with a teenage boy (that's for sure), and Brolin has moved on to become a much more serious actor. If only there was a way for the two to take revenge on their co-star!

This meme shows Cable getting back at Wade Wilson with a meta painting all of his own. As Deadpool sits as a model for his portrait, Nathan Summers eloquently paints away, creating a picture that is sure to make the Merc's skin crawl.

2011's Green Lantern was a flop of astronomical proportions; the movie was set to kick off the DC Universe, but instead became a CGI-laden mess that was quickly swept under the rug. At the forefront of the movie? Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. We all know how much the Deadpool actor hates his former role. Maybe this portrait is what inspired Deadpool to his seize his opportunity to keep the movie from ever happening during the Deadpool 2 credits!

It's the Hairstyle, Isn't It?

Eleven Negasonic Teenage Warhead

When it was first released in the summer of 2016, Stranger Things took the world by storm. The show was a love letter to the 1980s, taking place during the Regan Administration and putting pop culture references like Ghostbusters, arcades, and Dungeons & Dragons at the forefront of the story. It also helped that the series perfectly captures the tone of '80s films like E.T. or The Goonies while also simultaneously creating a story of mystery and horror.

One of the standouts from the actors of this show is the young girl known as "Eleven," a character who has superhuman powers that allow her to move things with her mind and travel throughout another astral plane.

Also released in 2016, Deadpool featured another standout young woman in the form of Negasonic Teenage Warhead, an X-Man in training from Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters who could create energy forcefields around herself and others and could create energy shots.

Strangely enough it took until Deadpool 2 for a character to note the striking similarities between Negasonic and Eleven.

They both have a strong, angsty, "loner" way of carrying themselves and a similar fashion sense. In the second movie, Wade Wilson makes a snarky comment in which he calls Negasonic "Eleven" in the heat of the moment. This meme plays upon that joke by claming that eleven's adventures were just Negasonic's "younger years."

Wrong Type of Cable!

Cable and Deadpool

Cable and Deadpool go together like peanut butter and mayonnaise. Seriously, the two are about as polar opposite as you can get. Deadpool likes to make jokes and takes nothing seriously while Cable is stoic and straight to the point. Yet somehow the two make an excellent team.

The chemistry between the two characters was captured perfectly on screen in Deadpool 2 thanks to actors Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin. Even when they were enemies in the film, they played off of each other like they had been doing this for ages. Though Cable was different from his comic counterpart, it seemed like the relationship was ripped straight off the page.

When it was first announced that Cable would be front and center in the Deadpool sequel, fans were ecstatic. This teaser poster looks like it came straight from the actual marketing team of the movie - it's such a good troll. It teases the audience that "Deadpool 2: Deadpool and Cable" is coming soon with the Merc with a Mouth standing in front of TV full of static (implying that he is waiting on his "Cable" to be installed).

This is an absolutely terrible pun, but it seems exactly like something Deadpool would do to get us hyped about the second movie without giving anything away!

 2. Save Us, Sugar Bear

Peter Deadpool 2

Alas, 2017's Justice League was one of the most disappointing movies of the year and Deadpool and Deadpool 2 look to be some of their respective year's best superhero movies.

One of the best instances of why Justice League didn't do so well comes in the form of a pivotal scene from the trailer in which a surprised Alfred mentions to a character we are assuming is Superman that Bruce said he'd come, and that he hopes it wasn't too late. This epic scene was not in the final cut of the movie so we don't know for sure!

However, this let the internet have a field day with the unused scene.

This meme combines Alfred's hopeful words with the appearance of Peter, the man in Deadpool 2 who joins up with X-Force, but has no powers whatsoever (he just saw the ad).

Throughout the rest of the movie the character is given way more attention than he deserves, with Deadpool referring to him as "Sugar Bear" and Peter getting more screen time than the rest of the team, minus Domino. This meme mocks the fact that such a minor character was played up as much as he was.

Well, That's Just Lazy Design

Lazy Design

In the comics, Domino was always part of an on-again, off-again relationship with Cable and the subject of Deadpool's affections. Created by Rob Liefeld, Domino was a deadly assassin who had the power of "luck" on her side; she would always end up on the good end of a situation, no matter how dire it seemed to be. The character was a huge part of both the New Mutants as well as the X-Force and has been a staple of the Cable & Deadpool comics ever since her introduction. In Deadpool 2, Domino is played by Zazie Beetz.

When the design of the character was first revealed, fans weren't too happy. Despite their excitement for the actress herself, Domino looked nothing like her comic book counterpart. She wore a different outfit, she had wildly different hair, and she just had a normal face with a white patch around her eye rather than a powder white face with a black patch.

Somebody went so far as to point out that this new version of the character looked suspiciously like a cross between Barf from Spaceballs and Kaleesi's right hand woman Missandei from Game of Thrones. Despite how awesome the character turned out to be, this meme is pretty striking
