Deadpool 2: Mackenzie Davis Responds to Domino Casting Rumors

After much fan anticipation, Deadpool was finally released this past February and it obliterated box office records. The Merc with a Mouth's $132 million+ opening weekend ranks as the highest debuts ever for an R-rated movie, as well as being the highest opening in Fox's X-Men universe - and that's no small feat. So, considering Deadpool's enormous success, it is not surprising that Fox has already green-lit a sequel to the Tim Miller-directed, and Ryan Reynolds-starring film. The Deadpool post-credits scene even teased the sequel before it was announced by asserting that the time traveling mutant, Cable, would appear.

Though still without a specific release date, Deadpool 2 is already the topic of much casting speculation. Once Cable was teased to appear, it did not take long for his lover, Domino, to be rumored to appear in the sequel as well. While numerous actors have already thrown their names into the ring to play Cable, recent reports suggested that Fox may have already locked in on the actor and actress set to play Cable and Domino. Apparently, Fox was eyeing Kyle Chandler (Bloodline) to play Cable, and Mackenzie Davis (The Martian) to play Domino. Well, Davis recently addressed those rumors.

In an interview with GQ, Davis was asked about the rumor that she would appear in Deadpool 2, and she had this to say:

No! [laughs] It’s very interesting. People keep sending me printouts being like, “This is so cool!” And I’m like, “Right? I also think it’s cool! But it’s not true!”

I mean. I’d love to keep the ruse going. It’s sort of cool that people think I’m doing Deadpool. But no! I don’t have any news to share. I wish I did!

Mackenzie Davis

Unfortunately, it appears that the rumor that Davis is being eyed to play Domino is nothing but that - a rumor. Of course, Davis could always be playing things close to the vest as studios generally do like to keep a lid on certain news stories until they decide when to announce them. Regardless, it appears that any casting decisions concerning Domino are yet to be made, and Davis has certainly not been told she's in Deadpool 2.

For those that do not know Davis, her star is on the rise, and thus, she would fit the bill for a supporting role in a comic book movie. She was recently in The Martian, and is going to appear in the currently filming Blade Runner 2. Davis also stars as computer prodigy Cameron Howe in AMC's critically acclaimed show, Halt and Catch Fire.

The character Davis was rumored to play, Domino, has been a member of X-Force, the X-Men, and has, of course, partnered with Cable. Originally a mercenary, she has the ability to manipulate the laws of probability, which makes it seem like she has the best of luck. If Domino does appear in Deadpool 2, it will mark the first time she has appeared on the big screen. Domino is a compelling character with a striking appearance, so it is not surprising that Davis, herself, finds the rumors to be "cool." And given her work to date, it would be pretty "cool" for her to actually get the role.

Wolverine 3 opens in U.S. theaters on March 3rd, 2017, followed by unannounced X-Men films on October 6th, 2017, March 2nd, 2018, and June 29th, 2018. Deadpool 2, Gambit, New Mutants and X-Force are currently in development.
