Deadpool 2's Original Director Had Fantastic Four 2015 Cameos

The original director of Deadpool 2, Tim Miller, planned to have characters from Josh Trank’s 2015 Fantastic Four in the film. Deadpool 2 hit theaters earlier this year and it was a huge success for Fox. Fans were delighted by the sequel, which somehow lived up to the monumental hype. Though Deadpool 2 turned out amazing, the road to its release wasn’t all Wham! and unicorns.

Last year, fans of the first film were stunned when Deadpool 2’s original director, Tim Miller, left the project citing creative differences. Details regarding Miller’s exit were scarce. However, it was clear that his vision for the sequel didn’t align with other members of the production team - most notably, Ryan Reynolds. Since Miller directed the first Deadpool, it seemed strange that he left the sequel. Fox, however, quickly brought in John Wick’s David Leitch to direct. While we don’t know much about Miller’s original concept for the film, an artist for Deadpool 2 recently revealed that Miller planned to have the Fantastic Four cameo in the film.

Marvel Entertainment illustrator, Alexander Lozano, recently took to Instagram to share concept art from Miller’s version of Deadpool 2. He showcased early concept art of Juggernaut, Domino, Cable and the unused villain Blaquesmith. He then revealed that Miller had planned for Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell reprise their roles from Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four. Lozano shared the concept art for the Fantastic Four, which you can see below:

Lozano’s concept art is intriguing and has led many fans to wonder what might have been. Sure, Fantastic Four was a critical and box office failure, however the cast was hardly the issue. It would have been a delight to see the actors reprise their roles. Maybe of the cast could have even redeemed themselves in the eyes of fans a little bit. Beyond seeing the cast together again, their cameo would have also been an endless source of jokes. It’s not that Deadpool 2 didn’t have enough comedic ammunition, but it would have been a nice change of pace from the endless slew of X-Men and Green Lantern meta-humor.

All things considered, Deadpool 2 was an excellent film and the recently released Super Duper Cut was even better. It’s doubtful that the Fantastic Four cameo would have changed much, but some fans still wonder what Miller’s version of the film would be. Much like Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man, people who are invested in comic book films are curious of what could have been. It’s also important to note that Miller’s version of Deadpool 2 would have possibly been the last time the Fantastic Four cast was together on film. Now that Disney has acquired 20th Century Fox, it’s likely that Marvel Studios will recast the roles if they bring the Fantastic Four into the MCU.
