Deadpool 2 Extended Cut Confirmed, Includes [SPOILER] Montage

Warning: This post contains SPOILERS for Deadpool 2

Deadpool 2 extended cut is on the way according to director David Leitch. There were several factors behind the success of the first Deadpool movie, but it was primarily Ryan Reynolds, the lower superhero budget, and the vision of director Tim Miller that made it a success story. For the sequel, Reynolds remained while the budget nearly doubled and Miller exited after creative differences with the star/writer/producer. Leitch stepped in and helped deliver a sequel that many are calling as good as, if not better than, the first movie.

Thanks to Leitch's background in action, that particular element of Deadpool 2 was elevated. It didn't hurt that Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Zazie Beetz) became major players in the film as well as, especially after Deadpool 2 reshoots bolstered both of their roles. Reynolds and co-writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, meanwhile, created another personal story for Wade Wilson. Even with blatant X-Force setup, the film still came in just under 2 hours - but there will be more on the home video release... eventually.

CinemaBlend spoke to David Leitch about his latest project and whether or not an extended cut could be on the way. Leitch confirms that such a cut already exists as his director's cut (which ran 2 hours and 12 minutes) and that there are plans to release the extended look after it's all completely squared away.

"There's an extended cut. And I think that they may want to spin that out as a special thing, but right now I'm sort of... we're taking our time, and it's going back to the 'director cut,' and then sort of collaborating with Ryan [Reynolds], Rhett [Reese], and Paul [Wernick], and making sure we're all getting all the jokes we want - to have it be fun and our sort of fun collaboration."

It would appear that at the extended take will give fans roughly 13 additional minutes of Deadpool 2 whenever it's released. It could make a theatrical debut if 20th Century Fox really wants to do so, but it will surely be a home video release eventually. As for what it will actually contain, Leitch teased that there will be plenty more of the film's breakout star Domino. Additionally, Leitch confirmed that the previously revealed Deadpool suicide montage will be included as well. Audiences know his final method is blowing up the apartment, but Deadpool's imagination could result in some ridiculous attempts too.

Whenever this extended cut is released, it will make Deadpool 2 the latest comic book movie to do so. Fox has done so before with the "Rogue Cut" of X-Men: Days of Future Past, while Warner Bros. has made a small habit of such extended cuts for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. It doesn't currently sound like the extended cut will help the plot in any way and will, instead, focus on just amping up the humor. There may not really be a need to see a longer cut of Deadpool 2 and Fox could just be fine releasing all the extra footage as deleted scenes on the Blu-Ray, but maybe this cut actually will further improve Deadpool 2.
