The cast of Deadpool 2 appears on a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 and no one saw the best joke of the whole thing. Though the project languished in development hell for many years, Deadpool finally moved forward at 20th Century Fox after test footage mysteriously leaked - just as Comic-Con 2014 was ending - and inspired largely positive buzz. Deadpool hit theaters in early 2016, becoming a critical and financial success. As such, a sequel was a no-brainer, and Deadpool 2 was released earlier this year.

Since the movie is already out - and Fox's next X-Men movie isn't scheduled to debut until February 2019 - Deadpool 2 held a panel at Comic-Con to promote the film's upcoming home release. The panel preceded an official screening of the Deadpool 2 extended cut at Comic-Con, but star Ryan Reynolds made sure to bring plenty of fun to Hall H. In addition to answering fan questions about what superhero Reynolds would play other than Deadpool and screening deleted scenes from Deadpool 2, the lineup of panelists had its own fun joke.

As spotted by Screen Rant's own Ben Kendrick, the panel setup for Deadpool 2 featured a tie-in to one of the funnier gags in the movie. In the film, Wade Wilson recruits a mutant known as Vanisher to the short-lived X-Force team. For the most part, the mutant is invisible - that is, until his death by electric shock when it's revealed Vanisher is played by Brad Pitt. Well, at the panel for Deadpool 2, Vanisher had his own placard and seat. Take a look:

Unfortunately, despite Vanisher having a place at the panel, Pitt did not make a surprise appearance, but the placard undoubtedly acts as a fun nod to the movie for fans in attendance (those that could see it, anyway). This year marks the second official appearance at Comic-Con for the cast of the Deadpool movies, and following their raucous presentation in 2016, the Deadpool 2 panel was a somewhat more muted affair overall. Still, that didn't stop Reynolds, his fellow cast members and director David Leitch from having a good time with fans in Hall H. Just one of those ways is the Vanisher placard, but there's more to look forward to from Deadpool.

Deadpool 2 releases on Blu-ray later this year, and while Deadpool 3 isn't currently moving forward, the Merc with a Mouth will return in Fox's X-Force movie. Drew Goddard is set to work on X-Force once his new movie, Bad Times at the El Royale, is completed and released. The team-up will see Deadpool, Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Zazie Beetz) return, along with some of the other X-Force mutants from Deadpool 2. Though it seems incredibly unlikely we'll see Pitt back as Vanisher, at least the invisible mutant appeared with the Deadpool 2 cast at Comic-Con.
