Deadpool 2 sees the Merc with a Mouth back on the big screen with a whole new cast of characters. time-traveling Cable arrive in the present seeking to kill a kid, and its down to Wad Wilson to stop him. Along the way, Wade will form the first incarnation of Fox's X-Force, setting the scene for Fox's much-anticipated X-Force movie.

Deadpool 2 faces a difficult challenge, trying to continue the first film's intense, personal focus - while also expanding Deadpool's cinematic world, laying the foundations for X-Force. The movie features a whole host of cameos and guest-stars, with particularly prominent roles played by Josh Brolin's Cable and Zazie Beetz's Domino.

With so many characters to keep track of, it would be easy to get a little confused. So, before you go see Deadpool 2, here's all you need to know about the movie's stars and superheroes.

The Stars of the Show

Deadpool 2 Wade Wilson

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool - No stranger to superhero films, Ryan Reynolds's superhuman career got off to a rocky start with Green Lantern and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Reynolds has since made Deadpool his own, though, portraying an iconic version of the Merc With A Mouth in 2016's Deadpool. The sequel opens with Wade and his lady-love Vanessa now settled down, but life is never easy for a character like Deadpool.

Josh Brolin as Cable - In 1990, Rob Liefeld and Louise Simonson created the character of Cable, a time-traveling soldier who was attempting to rewrite history. Over the years, Cable and Deadpool have become strongly connected, even co-starring in a team-up title back in the early 2000s. Josh Brolin is expected to play the part for a four-movie arc. The actor also played Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, making this his second big-screen Marvel character this year.

Zazie Beetz as Domino - Created by Rob Liefeld in 1992, Domino is a mutant gun-for-hire whose power is to manipulate probability. However as much Deadpool may object, when Domino's around, luck truly is a super-power - and the film will go to great lengths to show just how "cinematic" such an ability can be. Beetz is best known for her long-running role as Van in Atlanta.

The X-Men

Deadpool 2 - Colossus

Stefan Capicic as Colossus - Stefan Capicic is reprising the role of Colossus, the metal-skinned mutant who formed a key part of the X-Men's "Second Genesis" team in the comics. Capicic's Colossus was a hugely popular character in the first Deadpool film, and it was no surprise to see the actor signed up to return.

Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead - Also known for her roles in The Exorcist and Tragedy, Brianna Hildebrand signed up to the first Deadpool as Negasonic Teenage Warhead. The character was heavily-redesigned from the comics, where she's traditionally been portrayed as a Goth precog. In the time between the films, Negasonic has graduated, and she's now a fully-fledged X-Man.

Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio - Australian-born Japanese actress Shioli Kutsuna has joined playing another junior X-Man, Yukio. In the comics, Yukio is an agile street thief; another version of the character appeared in 2013's The Wolverine. The Deadpool 2 version is a pink-haired mutant who generates powerful energy chains and whips.

Russell

Deadpool 2 - Julian Dennison as The Kid

Julian Dennison as Russell - Best known for his performance in Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Julian Dennison is playing Russell, a pyrokinetic who calls himself Firefist. In the comics, Firefist was a background character in Chris Claremont's X-Factor run, but ultimately became one of Magneto's Acolytes. Deadpool 2 has significantly upped the character's power levels.

X-Force

So which mutants will make the cut into Deadpool 2's X-Force? Here's the team line-up:

Terry Crews as Bedlam - The electrical-manipulating Jesse Aaronson aka Bedlam was introduced to X-Force comics in 2000 and makes his big screen debut played by Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Terry Crews.

Lewis Tan as Shatterstar - Known for his work on Into The Badlands and Iron Fist, Lewis Tan has signed up as Shatterstar, a genetically-engineered reality star from the TV-obsessed planet Mojoworld.

Bill Skarsgård as Zeitgeist - Created by Pete Milligan and Mike Allred back in 2001, Zeitgeist is a mutant who can spit corrosive acid. He's played by Swedish actor Bill Skarsgård, who played Pennywise in IT.

Rob Delaney as Peter - Writer and actor Rob Delaney is best known for his work on Catastrophe, and now he's making his superhero debut as Peter, an ordinary guy who responds to Wade's X-Force ad.
