Fox releases an action-packed trailer to promote the upcoming release of Deadpool 2 on Blu-ray. This is the second piece of marketing for the upcoming release, following the roll-out of a short clip released by star and executive producer Ryan Reyndols announcing the "super-duper cut" edition of the film.

Directed by David Leitch - who took over helming duties from Tim Miller, with the script written by original writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, as well as Reynolds, Deadpool 2 was bigger in scale from the first Deadpool movie released in 2016. It's pivotal in Fox's franchise-building with the introduction of possible long-term key characters like Josh Brolin's Cable and Zazie Beetz's Domino. The sequel is expected to springboard a brand new Fox spinoff in Drew Goddard's X-Force which is poised to start filming later this year, although it does not have a confirmed release date yet.

20th Century Fox released a brand new action-packed trailer on their official YouTube channel to remind everyone that Deadpool 2 will be available on digital starting August 7 and on Blu-ray two weeks later on August 21. However, fans who will be attending San Diego Comic-Con this week will have the chance to see what the extended version of the movie looks like thanks to a Deadpool 2: Uncut screening event in the annual convention. The "super duper" cut premiere will go hand-in-hand with a special panel dedicated to the film where the main cast and crew are expected to attend. Watch the 40-second video above.

Frankly, this newest release is kind of disappointing, especially for a film series like Deadpool which prides itself for its viral marketing campaign. Instead of coming up with something new and fresh to promote the release of the sequel's Blu-ray, the clip offers nothing new - only including previously seen scenes from earlier trailers for the movie. Comparing this to the teasers that were released for the home entertainment roll-out for the first film - which mainly featured Reynolds in his superhero suit making funny quips - this is definitely a let-down. Considering that the project was given a higher budget, maybe they could've put more effort into this teaser, even if it's just for the Blu-ray launch.

That said, perhaps Fox is saving some of their more interesting promotional clips as the release date nears - maybe even planning a huge surprise that will be unveiled in SDCC. If anything, marketing for Deadpool 2 was also a slow-burn. It wasn't after the release of Avengers: Infinity War, with only two weeks to spare before the R-rated superhero flick hit theaters, that they really cranked up their marketing machine for the sequel. With still three weeks before the film is available on digital, Reynolds and his team still have plenty of time to release more on-brand publicity materials to make-up for this dull one. Maybe the buzz from SDCC (granted that it's positive) can also help boost people's interest in getting their own copy of the flick.
