Those who pre-order the Dead Space remake on Steam will receive a copy of Dead Space 2, the second entry in EA's orignial Dead Space trilogy. The Dead Space remake, developed by Motive Studios, is set to release on January 27, 2023, and will retell the story of the original game with next-gen technology.As announced by the Dead Space Twitter account, players who preorder the remake on Steam will also receive a free copy of Dead Space 2. With Dead Space proving to be a faithful remake of the original, players new to the franchise will have the opportunity to continue directly to its sequel, which some of the remake's gameplay improvements come from. Additionally, although the announcement was only made recently, all players who have already preordered the game will also receive Dead Space 2 for free.
Dead Space Preorder Offer Could Bring New Fans To The Original Trilogy
With Dead Space bringing a bevy of upgrades to the 2008 classic, the game will likely serve as an excellent entry point for newcomers to the franchise, with a free copy of Dead Space 2 allowing new fans to continue on from where the remake ends. With protagonist Isaac Clarke getting a new voiceover for the remake, as well as Dead Space 2's zero gravity flight replacing the original game's jumping mechanics, continuity between the two titles will likely be stronger than before as well. While Dead Space's story will make some changes, the transition between it and Dead Space 2 should hopefully still be fairly seamless.
While Dead Space 2 still holds up well by modern standards, in the eyes of many of its fans, a remake for the original Dead Space could mean that its sequel is next in line. However, no official statements have been made on a potential Dead Space 2 remake, and while the original game had areas to improve on, the second could prove harder to remake in a meaningful way. Additionally, while a free copy of Dead Space 2 is a great offer for new fans, Dead Space 3 has notably been left out - which may stem from the game's more divisive nature.
With survival horror making a resurgence in 2023, Dead Space will face stiff competition, possibly even including new content for spiritual successor The Callisto Protocol. Enough renewed interest in the franchise, however, could mark the start of a revival for Dead Space. Whatever the case, Dead Space's ambitious remake shows promise - and with Dead Space 2 on offer for free, January 2023 will likely prove an opportune time to get in on the classic horror franchise.
