An Amazon listing may have revealed the release date and pricing details for the long-awaited Dead Island 2, suggesting an official announcement is coming soon. The sequel to Techland's Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide was announced at E3 in 2014 with a memorable trailer, but has had a turbulent development that has seen the project change developers on several occasions, leading to very little news being released around the zombie action RPG.Earlier this month rumors began to surface that Dead Island 2 would reappear with a re-reveal later this year, following prior release date leaks in February. The rumor by industry insider Tom Henderson cited an anonymous source, and noted that Dead Island 2's re-reveal would likely target a big event such as The Game Awards in December. Fans have been eagerly awaiting updates on the long-dormant game, with hopes high for the next zombie adventure set in paradise.Related: Dead Island 2 Release Date Is This Year According To LeakAlthough these were rumors and nothing has still been confirmed by Dead Island 2's latest developer, Dambuster Studios, the likelihood of a 2023 release just became greater. Wario64 tweeted that a brand-new listing for Dead Island 2: Day 1 Edition for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles had appeared on Amazon, with new box art and screenshots of the zombie title. The listing states that Dead Island 2 is aiming for a Feb 3, 2023 release date, and both the current-gen and last-gen versions are priced at $69.99.

Dead Island 2 Has a Large Focus on Co-Op Gameplay

Previous rumors have indicated that Dead Island 2 will continue on from its predecessors with a high focus on co-op gameplay. Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide allowed four-player co-op, with each character having their own skill sets and perks. Players were able to carry over their characters from Dead Island into Riptide but had the further option to play as John Morgan, a Sergeant of the Australian Defense Force who was skilled in hand-to-hand combat. If the rumors turn out to be true, Dead Island 2 could have more playable characters, introducing six completely new characters to the series, rather than following on from the protagonists' story in the previous games, which had an ominous ending that left their fates unclear. Whether the co-op amount will still be limited to four players, or if players can form teams with all six characters at once is yet to be seen.

If the Amazon listing and recent increase in Dead Island 2 rumors are any indication, it is good news for fans who have been waiting years for the title. While the leaked listing has yet to be confirmed by the developer, it's very possible the reveal is coming soon - perhaps at the upcoming Gamescom 2022. It's been nearly a decade and has taken three development teams since Dead Island 2's initial reveal, but players might finally be getting their hands on the zombie RPG soon.
