Dead by Daylight update 5.4.0 introduces the Artist, a killer with interesting abilities that can be used to out-strategize and dominate a group of survivors. The Artist’s main ability is unlike any other killer’s ability in the game. Using the Artist’s main ability along with the right setup of perks will assure a swift victory against even the best survivors.

While some players may want to have a different setup of perks, the Birds of Torment ability is a game-breaker when used correctly. Grim Embrace, Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance, and Hex: Pentimento can all be used in conjunction with Birds of Torment to change the course of the game for a killer main.

Bird of Torment, the main ability for the Artist, allows players to utilize a floating bird head to attack enemies in a few different ways. When players first activate the Birds of Torment ability, a floating bird head spawns in front of them. This bird head can be left floating in place or launched in the direction the head is facing. The bird head can travel through any object in all maps, including the scariest among them. If players keep the bird head floating in place or launch it over a long distance, the affected survivor will have a swarm of birds envelop them. This allows the Artist to see the aura of the affected survivor. If the bird head is launched over a short distance, the affected survivor is immediately damaged. This ability is especially useful when attacking enemies across the map.

Tips, Tricks, & Strategies For The Artist Killer In Dead By Daylight

The Artist’s three Dead by Daylight perks are intricate and useful; especially regarding Hex: Pentimento. Grim Embrace allows killers to gain a token for each survivor hooked. Upon reaching four tokens, all generators are blocked for 30 seconds. Depending on the survivors’ movement patterns, this perk can be hard to bring to fruition. However, if players manage to hook four people early on, this ability gives the killer an immense window for attacks.

Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance makes four random hooks “Scourge hooks.” If a survivor is hooked on a scourge hook, the generator with the most progress instantly loses 15% progress and starts to regress. This allows players to target certain scourge hooks to stifle survivors’ progress and possibly make them scatter. However, this ability is not the best perk to keep in a loadout, considering the scourge hooks’ auras are only visible when carrying a survivor.

Hex: Pentimento is the best perk to have in an Artist loadout. When using this perk, players can change destroyed totems into a rekindled totem. These are not quite the same totems as Boon Totems. One totem reduces repair speed by 30%, two totems reduce healing speed by 30%, three totems reduce recovery speed by 30%, four totems reduce gate speed by 30%, and five totems block all the totems. It is not feasible to gain five Pentimento totems in each match, however, players can gain an immense advantage just by gaining one or two totems. Pentimento can be grouped with the perks Hex: Ruin and Hex: Undying to create a frustrating loadout for survivors to deal with.
