The upcoming Dungeons & Dragons film, Honor Among Thieves, received a new featurette on December 5th in which members of the cast give their insights into the movie (via YouTube). Dungeons & Dragons hasn't had the best history when it comes to films, with the original trilogy fairing poorly in terms of critical reception. However, fans are so far looking forward to the new reboot which appears to have the right balance between camp fun and careful handling of the lore.

Fans can expect plenty of iconic monsters to appear in Honor Among Thieves, and they were already given a small glimpse of an infamous Mimic chest in the trailers releases so far. There are sure to be many other classic low-level monsters to appear throughout the film.

Giant Rats Are Dangerous In A Pack

One of the most common monsters that players are likely to encounter on their journey is giant rats. Just like in real life, these are low-level creatures that crawl through sewers and dungeons.

Also similarly to real life, rats are far more dangerous in a pack and if they have at least one ally nearby that's alive. These carnivorous rodents also have a keen sense of smell that gives them an advantage with Wisdom based rolls.

Orcs Are Aggressive Monsters

Orcs from Dungeons & Dragons.

While orcs have become one of the most popular races to play in D&D they are also still one of the most common monsters that players can come across.

Orcs can vary in difficulty, but there are plenty of low-level ones around for players to hack at. Orcs are generally chaotic evil and extremely aggressive, which benefits their speed toward a target.

Bandits Are Common NPCs

Bandits are NPC opponents that a party can encounter almost everywhere. Players could be in a city, a dungeon, or even out in the open plains and encounter these foes.

They aren't terribly difficult to deal with, but they might supply a bit of a challenge for low-level players. They can be any race, not just humans, and have rather balanced stats with a passive Perception of 10.

Every Player Has Faced A Goblin

Goblins from Dungeons & Dragons.

Goblins are undoubtedly the most common low-level monsters that players will encounter in Dungeons & Dragons. They're commonly seen as the perfect starting monster for players to go up against whenever a new party is beginning their adventure.

While these aren't difficult enemies to kill, players can get unlucky if they miss and goblins can slowly slink away by using Disengage or Hide as a bonus action during their turn.

Skeletons Are Animated Undead Soldiers

Skeletons from Dungeons & Dragons.

Skeletons are extremely common enemies that D&D parties will face, and they're often summoned by a Necromancer, a monster and class that has appeared in many Dungeons & Dragons video games.

These creatures offer a standard challenge for a low-level party and shouldn't be too much to deal with. They are extremely vulnerable to bludgeoning and players should resist trying to waste any poison on them as it will have no effect.

Kobolds Are Dragon Worshipers

Kobolds are draconic-like creatures that worship dragons and often serve as the monsters players encounter shortly before fighting a powerful dragon. Much like giant rats, kobolds are stronger in packs and receive an advantage on an attack roll as long as they have a living kobold ally within five feet of them.

While most kobolds will be fought in caves, it's best to try and inflict sunlight upon them in any way the player can since kobolds are extremely sensitive to it. Many fans are hoping that these classic monsters appear in Honor Among Thieves.

Ghouls Roam The Night

A party roaming the outdoors at night is more than likely to encounter a pack of ghouls desiring to devour their flesh. These creatures don't get any bonuses for fighting in a pack.

Ghouls also don't have any weaknesses and are immune to poison. The best races to go up against ghouls are elves and the undead as they are unaffected by ghouls' dangerous paralysis.

Gray Ooze Is A Surprising Nuisance

Gray Ooze from Dungeons & Dragons.

There are a few different oozes in Dungeons & Dragons but the most common low-level one that players will come into contact with is gray ooze. This monster can be extremely difficult to notice as it blends in with stone and is formerly stone itself.

At any unsurprising moment, this ooze can throw itself from a wall and attach itself to an unsuspecting player. Gray ooze is incredibly troublesome and any nonmagical weapons that try to hit it will instantly corrode.

Mimics Make Treasure Hunting A Dangerous Business

Mimics are one of the most iconic monsters in Dungeons & Dragons and even appear in numerous other video games like Dark Souls and Final Fantasy. These monsters are infamous for appearing as chests and can ruin the day of any adventurer that tries to open them.

The Mimic will engage in an attack momentarily after and deal loads of damage. A party taken by surprise by a Mimic that is too low-leveled can easily be overwhelmed. Fans will get to see this in action soon as a Mimic is a monster in D&D: Honor Among Thieves.

Gnolls Give A Fresh Experience For First-Time Players

Gnolls from Dungeons & Dragons.

Gnolls are hideous hyena-like creatures that most players will encounter at some point as they continue to play Dungeons & Dragons. They feel more unique than goblins or orcs and offer a fresh experience the first time players encounter them.

Gnolls have an impressive ability called rampage that allows them to take an additional turn if they manage to reduce their target's health to 0. This is an incredibly dangerous ability that could be detrimental to a party with low health.
