Amy Adams reveals if she will return as DCU's Lois Lane following Henry Cavill's confirmed comeback as Superman. Alongside Cavill, Adams was one of the first main characters in Warner Bros.' comic book franchise, debuting the role of Lois in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. Since then, the actor reprised the role two more times, in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. But as the DCU went through different twists and turns, Adams' future as Lois was cast in doubt. Between Cavill's return and James Gunn and Peter Safran now spearheading the franchise, however, many are wondering if Adams will also appear again in the DCU.

Speaking with Variety during the red carpet premiere of Disenchanted, Adams finally speaks up about the matter. She reveals she is nothing but excited for Cavill's DCU Superman return, but maintains she hasn't had talks about reprising Lois. In any case, she's ready for however the new DCU management chooses to proceed with the character. Read Adams' full quote below:

Isn’t that exciting? I mean, I think I heard it from my husband, actually. I’m thrilled for him, he’s such a wonderful Superman, so I’m very excited for him. They haven’t spoken to me about it. If it’s me great, if it’s not… the role of Lois has been filled by so many wonderful actresses in the past, so I’ll support whatever direction they go.

Should DCU Bring Back Amy Adams As Lois Lane?

After the initial excitement of Cavill's return as Superman died down somewhat, fans shifted their focus to discussing what it means for the larger DCU. As Clark Kent's love interest and an integral character in his narrative, there's naturally interest in knowing what's next for Lois Lane in the franchise. In the middle of the commotion regarding Cavill's supposed exit as the Man of Steel in March 2020, Adams mentioned that Warner Bros. was moving away from Cavill's version of Superman. Despite that, she still expressed her interest in revisiting her role as Lois in case things became clearer regarding their future in the DCU.

Now that Cavill's DCU comeback has been set, it's unclear why Warner Bros. still hasn't reached out to Adams to potentially join him. After Superman's cameo in Black Adam, it's likely that Man of Steel 2 is high on Gunn and Safran's priority list, considering fans' persistent clamor for it. Unless the DCU is fully rebooted, it would have to explain what happened to Clark and Lois' relationship if she doesn't appear in the proposed sequel. Otherwise, there's also the possibility of recasting Lois, as Adams mentions.

Changing actors in franchises isn't that big of a deal anymore. It shouldn't be that complicated to replace Adams as Lois Lane in the DCU if, for whatever reason, she is unable to come back and rejoin Cavill. But considering her acting prowess, losing her would be a big missed opportunity for Warner Bros., especially since the franchise hasn't really had the chance to take advantage of her talent.
