Amy Adams wants to reprise her role as DCEU's Lois Lane, but admits it may not be in the cards anymore with Warner Bros. moving away from Henry Cavill's (who's recently rumored to play MCU's Wolverine) version of Superman. As one of the franchise's very first characters, the actress debuted the role in Zack Snyder's 2013 film Man of Steel. She played the iconic DC character twice after, in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017).

With the poor box office performance of Justice League brought on by a problematic production that involved script rewrites, extensive reshoots and a last minute director switch, Warner Bros. did some course-correction for the DCEU. With a significantly revamped slate for the next few years, the studio has yet to confirm what's ahead for Cavill as Superman as there's still no word of Man of Steel 2 or any future appearance for that matter. And since Adams' character is tightly integrated with the Last Son of Krypton, her future with the franchise is also bleak at the moment.

Speaking with Empire (via Fandom), Adams revealed that she'll "totally be open" to playing Lois Lane in an upcoming DC movie. All that being said, she candidly revealed she's not holding out hope for that to happen since as far as she knows, Warner Bros. is veering away from Cavill's version of Superman. "I think [the studio is] moving in a different direction, from my understanding," she said.

Superman carries Lois Lane in his arms

In 2018, news broke that Cavill is out of the DCEU after his camp and Warner Bros. reportedly failed to renegotiate terms of a new contract. Things got a bit confusing when both camps separately came out with statements denying the claim, but refused to lay out what's going on behind-the-scenes. As of last year, Cavill insists he's still the DCEU's Superman despite the lack of any future projects in the franchise - and they have films scheduled until the end of  2022. Right now, he's busy with his Netflix series, The Witcher where he plays Geralt of Rivia. However, Cavill said his new gig won't prevent him from returning to play Superman again - meaning he's still very much interested in putting on the red cape again.

Adams' quotes come on the heels of Jesse Eisenberg's comments about also wanting to reprise his role as Lex Luthor. Both actors' last outing in the DCEU was in Justice League. Unfortunately, with seemingly no plans for another Superman-featured movie with both Man of Steel 2 and Justice League Part 2 missing from Warner Bros' DC slate, chances of this happening are slim to none. The universe is noticeably moving away from Snyder's plan, where Superman and all his tie-in characters were central to the narrative. That said, while the future is bleak for these characters at this point, that doesn't mean fans definitely won't see them on the big screen again. If Warner Bros. want to bring them back, they'll be able to find a way to incorporate them again into the universe, especially since fans still want to see more of them.
