Digital artist ultraraw26 reimagines a classic piece of comic art with the DC Extended Universe's Henry Cavill starring as Superman. Cavill has been the DCEU's Clark Kent since 2013's Man of Steel and is responsible for kicking off the entire universe. He returned for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, though neither movie was a critical smash. Partly because of this, Cavill's future as Superman has long been up in the air. However, he'll return in the Snyder Cut of Justice League when it releases on HBO Max next year. In fact, Superman's role is one of the most highly anticipated aspects of the movie, with Zack Snyder recently teasing Cavill wearing the character's black suit.

Luckily, Cavill's future in the DCEU may extend past the Snyder Cut. As of May, the actor was in talks for a return as Superman, likely as a cameo in an upcoming movie. Reportedly, Warner Bros. isn't confident another solo film starring Cavill would be successful at this time. However, it seems likely that if a cameo comes to fruition and audiences respond well to it, then Man of Steel 2 could be on the table. Unfortunately, that movie is reportedly not in development at this time, though that could change in the future. For his part, Cavill mentioned last year he's interested in continuing Superman's story in a sequel.

Though the extent of Cavill's future in the DCEU is far from certain, ultraraw26 has paid homage to his Superman via a new piece of art. Based on a classic work by famed comic book writer and artist Alex Ross, the image shows Cavill's transformation from Clark Kent to Superman. Check it out below:

Placing Cavill in such an iconic piece of Superman art shows a respect for his portrayal of the character. One silver lining of his uncertain future in the DCEU is that it's caused many to appreciate his time as Superman more. The actor had a difficult job in kicking off the DCEU, setting the tone for the vast number of movies that were to come. Though the franchise has its strengths and weaknesses, there's no doubt Cavill's Superman has been a key part of establishing its identity.

This recent art should only increase anticipation for Cavill's appearance in the Justice League Snyder Cut. It promises to show a new side of Superman, and, as a result, of Cavill's performance. With any luck, by the time it releases next year, viewers will have a better idea of Cavill's future in the DCEU, preparing them to either say goodbye to the character for now or build excitement for his next appearance as Superman.
