As the DC Extended Universe has started to pick up steam with quality releases like Shazam!, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman, fan interest has picked up as well. Naturally, this has led to fans making up their own fictionalized scenarios, one where couples don’t conform to what we’ve seen in canon.

With the DC Universe’s history being enormously vast, we’ve seen quite a few of these fan fiction couples already in various media; for this list, though, we’re considering the couples the DCEU hasn’t shown yet, meaning these couples are treated as brand new. With that in mind, here are 10 couples fans wish were real, and whom we agree would bring a good amount of intrigue if they were to become canonical.

Batman And Harley Quinn

Batman saves Harley Quinn suicide squad Cropped.v1

This wishful thinking began due to one of the scenes in Suicide Squad, where the film tried to be edgy as we saw Harley Quinn kiss Batman for no reason while he resuscitated her. As was the case with Harley and Joker, fangirls liked the idea of the Dark Knight with Harley.

And you know, we think the idea holds a lot of promise too. The scenario, though, has to be one where Harley’s an anti-hero along the likes of Catwoman rather than a villain. Paired with Robert Pattinson’s Batman, this is one coupling where Harley would look very good in canon.

Victor Stone And Diana Prince

Cyborg Wonder Woman

Of the little that was good in Justice League, the dynamic between these two characters was one of the finer points. They didn’t consider each other to be Wonder Woman and Cyborg; rather, they connected on a personal level.

Fans have been intrigued by the possibility of a romance between these two, as it would be a god and a cyborg attempting to find humanity in one another. Sure, it would require a very odd scenario for this to become reality rather than avid fan fiction, but who’s to say a Flashpoint-like universe can’t be seen where Victor and Diana are together?

Bruce Wayne And Lois Lane

These two have already been a couple in the DC Animated Universe, where their pairing made a whole lot more sense than Clark and Lois. With Ben Affleck and Amy Adams, fans had their fan fiction interests ready the moment they saw how attractive this pairing would be.

It would make sense too if Ben Affleck would want to return and Henry Cavill really is done with the DCEU, as we could see Lois reach out to Bruce and both these characters filling the space Superman left by getting together. It would also make for a heck of a storyline if Superman returned and we had Bruce and Lois as a couple. Now that’s a story too good to remain part of fan fiction.

Hades And Hippolyta

If you’re confused by the above image, then let us bring you up to speed by informing you that the DCAU Wonder Woman’s father was Hades, not Zeus. And yes, we’re aware that Hades hasn’t been seen in the DCEU so far, but those fans who’ve seen the DCAU Justice League have already fantasized the pairing of Hippolyta and Hades in the film universe.

Most fan fictions surrounding this pairing assume that a future Wonder Woman would bring a big twist by having Hippolyta confess her affair with Hades way back, with the reveal that the DCEU Diana is also Hades’ daughter.

Bruce Wayne And Martha Kent

You can thank Jimmy Kimmel for striking this idea in the minds of fans, as an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! had the host show a picture of Ben Affleck and Diane Lane in HollywoodLand, a film where they played lovers.

This sparked interest in the idea that Bruce Wayne could very well develop a relationship with Martha Kent, seeing as the DCEU Bruce is meant to be in his mid-40s. Most fan fictions generally poke fun at the “Martha!” controversy by having Bruce become obsessed with Clark’s mother, but we think there’s some potential in having Clark look up to Bruce as a mentor figure due to the latter’s relationship with Martha.

The Flash And Harley Quinn

This could very well be the couple you never knew you wanted until you realized how awesome it would be. There’s only a small portion of the DCEU fanbase that has bothered to create any kind of fiction over Flash and Harley Quinn, but all of it has been funny enough for us to want DC to give it a try.

A picture of Ezra Miller in his Flash costume on the Justice League set gazing at a picture of Harley Quinn furthered interest in an angle where Barry finds himself head over heels toward Harley, who’s teasing enough to have Flash dangling around her to fulfill her demands. It just might be crazy enough to work.

Nathan Hardy And Faora-Ul

Watching Man of Steel, one can easily sense a kind of attraction between these two characters, as it appears that Faora might have had some respect for Nathan’s bravery and spirit. It was also somewhat romantic how they perished together with the understanding that a good death was its own reward.

Unfortunately, it appears only the fans have caught on to this chemistry between these two, as those who appreciated their connection have hoped that Faora and Nathan might still be alive in the Phantom Zone, where Nathan managed to turn her away from the evil ideals fed to her by General Zod.

Wonder Woman And Mera

Wonder Woman and Mera

Fans have been behind these ladies’ current couplings, but that hasn’t meant they’ve been against the idea of Wonder Woman and Mera getting together either. After all, it would make sense in Wonder Woman’s part, considering she’d shared with Steve Trevor that she wasn’t against the idea of having a female love interest.

This fan fiction stems from the idea that Mera might not be the happiest being stuck in Atlantis and being Aquaman’s wife. In this case, we don’t find anything wrong with the idea of showing an attraction between these two top female figures in the DCEU because there would certainly be a good story attached to it.

Lex Luthor And Mercy Graves

Yes, Lex set up Mercy to die in the explosion in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but that hasn’t stopped fans from assuming Mercy can be brought back. In fact, there’s a fan fiction on YouTube where a video hypothesizes that Lex might have used Mercy’s DNA to bring a powerful version of her to life.

If we had it our way, a better way to make this a canonical couple would be to show it in flashbacks, where we see Lex being jilted in some romantic sense from Mercy that motivated him to have her killed. It would bring the glances they constantly exchanged in great context, while pleasing fans who want this couple to be a real thing.

Batman And Wonder Woman

Batman V Superman Wonder Woman Diana Prince Bruce Wayne

As far as a significant portion of fans are concerned, this is already a canonical couple in the DCEU. You have to hand it to the actors for having such remarkable chemistry, as the most favored fan fiction seems to be where Bruce and Diana get together.

It was one of the best angles in the DCAU as well, and it would be a shame if things remain only in the wish lists of fans rather than something we see onscreen. This might be the biggest reason why we’d like to have Ben Affleck return for another DCEU movies, as the possibility of a romance between these characters is too good to pass on.
