Superman star Henry Cavill plays Batman instead of Ben Affleck in new DC Extended Universe fan art. Cavill and Affleck are two of the biggest names in the DCEU, as they helped kick off the film series. Unfortunately, their two team-up movies, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, weren't as well-received as DC might have hoped. This led Warner Bros. to examine the future of both Batman and Superman in the DCEU. For now, Affleck is done playing Bruce Wayne, instead passing the torch onto Robert Pattinson for next year's The Batman.

However, Cavill is in a different spot. For awhile now, fans have worried his time as Superman might be over. Luckily, last month came the surprise announcement Cavill was in talks to reprise his role as Superman. It's unknown at this time what that will entail, though Man of Steel 2 is reportedly not in development. Instead, Cavill will likely cameo in an upcoming DCEU movie, such as Shazam 2 or Aquaman 2. Shazam 2 would make for a fun choice, as Superman already "appeared" in the first movie, with director David F. Sandberg recently completing the cameo to hilarious effect.

Digital artist venomhology revealed the fan art of Cavill as the DCEU's Batman. In it, he has a similar look and haircut to Affleck as Batman, making for a fun comparison. The same artist recently turned Affleck into Superman, and both transformations work surprisingly well. Check out the new art below:

While both Cavill and Affleck were well-cast in their respective parts, it's always fun to imagine what could have been. For superhero movies in particular, fans love hearing about other actors who were nearly cast in different roles. Sometimes, casting a different actor, such as Cavill for Batman, can completely change the role and tone of a project. Since Batman is generally a more somber character than Superman, it would have been interesting to see the lighter touch Cavill might have given Bruce Wayne.

However, fun as it is to imagine a DCEU swap like this one, Cavill and Affleck both brought important elements to Superman and Batman. Affleck was able to pull off an older, more cynical Batman than what's been seen before, which Cavill might not have been able to do. Meanwhile, Cavill provided an interesting new take on Superman, while also adhering to the personality traits and mannerisms important to that character. All told, it feels like the DCEU made the right call in casting Batman and Superman, but it's still interesting to imagine how things might have been different.
