The early days of the DCEU were criticized for its lack of humor. Since then, the movies have lightened up considerably with a variety of heroes and stories entering into the cinematic universe. But even if some of the stars haven't had the chance to show off their funny side within the DCEU, they have been quite funny elsewhere.

Looking at the careers of some of the DCEU's main actors, some have made long careers of comedy roles while others have surprised fans with the occasional light-hearted performance. These roles prove that \the actors know how to have a laugh outside of the superhero world.

Zachary Levi – Tangled (2010)

Zachary Levi's performance in Shazam! is probably the funniest performance in the DCEU to date. It is not surprising that he manages to bring so much charm and humor to the role as he has proven his comedic skills in a number of different roles.

But with a number of solid live-action roles to choose from, Levi's funniest is in the underrated Disney gem, Tangled. Levi plays the dashing and cocky thief Flynn Rider. He is the perfect mix between the charming Disney love interest and the arrogant himbo that Levi pulls off so well.

Laurence Fishburne – Black-ish (2004 -)

Laurence Fishburne makes for a great Perry White in the DCEU as he carries that authoritative presence with him at all times. Not surprisingly, this has led to a lot of dramatic parts in his long and impressive career, which makes his role in the sitcom Black-ish all the more surprising.

Fishburne has a recurring role on the hit show as the patriarch of the Johnson family. Given the heavier roles Fishburne is mostly known for, it is nice to see him get some laughs as the laidback and honest Pops.

Jesse Eisenberg – Zombieland (2009)

Many people found Jesse Eisenberg to be an unexpected choice to play the villainous Lex Luthor. That nervous energy he brought to the role didn't work for everyone, but it does seem to be more effective in comedies.

Zombieland is a great example of how funny Eisenberg can be playing meek and dry-witted characters. The movie is a fun mix of comedy and horror while Eisenberg and the rest of the star-studded cast work extremely well together.

Margot Robbie – The Big Short (2015)

Many would rightly point to Margot Robbie's role as Harley Quinn as her funniest because she has helped make the character a star in the DCEU. But looking outside of that wild role, there is a tiny yet unforgettable cameo that earns Robbie some big laughs.

In The Big Short, the complex financial plot is often explained in cutaway scenes with famous celebrities attempting to break the idea down for the audience. Robbie helps out in one memorable scene, explaining subprime mortgages while drinking champagne in a bathtub.

Ezra Miller – Trainwreck (2015)

Ezra Miller's Flash is another DCEU hero who is pretty funny in his own right. Miller has been known to take on dark and disturbing roles at times, but he proved himself as particularly funny long before being cast as Barry Allen.

Trainwreck is a rom-com from Judd Apatow and starring Amy Schumer. Along with an incredible cast of funny people, Miller has a standout supporting role as an intern at Schumer's office with whom she has an awkward romantic encounter.

Jason Momoa – Once Upon A Time In Venice (2007)

Much like his role as Aquaman, Jason Momoa is mostly known for tough-guy roles and doesn't often get the chance to flex his comedic muscles. However, the underseen crime-comedy Once Upon a Time in Venice allowed him to be tough and funny at the same time.

The movie stars Bruce Willis as a private eye who must recover drugs from an unhinged gangster (Momoa). The movie itself is quite forgettable, but Momoa seems to be having a lot of fun letting loose.

Amy Adams – Enchanted (2007)

Amy Adams is one of the most versatile actors working today, with a career that spans many different types of projects. While she is very effective in dark dramas, she was endlessly charming in the fantasy comedy Enchanted.

Adams plays a cartoon princess who is transported out of her fairytale world into modern-day New York City. The movie is a hugely enjoyable adventure that is elevated by Adams' incredibly likable performance in the lead role.

Henry Cavill – The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Many people have pointed out the fact that Henry Cavill's Superman is a much more serious take on the character than previous versions. However, Cavill can certainly turn on the charm and humor in a hero role as he proved in the underrated spy comedy The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

The 1960s-set story allows Cavill to be the dashing hero while infusing it with a suave bit of humor. It was nice to see him in a role that showed more of his comedic range.

Gal Gadot – Keeping Up With The Joneses (2016)

Gal Gadot became a star thanks to her winning performance as Wonder Woman in the DCEU. And like Cavill, she was able to step away from the superhero world to play in the spy comedy genre in Keeping Up with the Joneses.

The movie stars Zack Galifianakis and Isla Fischer play a suburban couple who are sucked into a dangerous world of espionage when they discover their perfect neighbors (Gadot and Jon Hamm) are government agents. Gadot plays the action star role here but also gets some funny moments.

Ben Affleck – Extract (2009)

Long before Affleck took on the role of Batman, he had already established a pretty impressive career with many different stages. While he is mostly known as a leading man, he occasionally plays supporting roles, such as in the Mike Judge comedy Extract.

The movie stars Jason Bateman as the manager of an extract plant while Affleck has a scene-stealing role as his bartender buddy. Seeing Affleck unwind as the scruffy slob was a nice change of pace for the superstar.
