Warning! Spoilers for DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #2 by DC Comics

DC's New God of Death, the Black Racer, is about to flip their role to save a major DC Comics hero, Big Barda, from being killed. In a new preview for DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #2 by DC Comics, Barda's search for her missing son results in her trying to enter a corrupted Boom Tube, only for the Black Racer to save her before she can be consumed by the dark thread.

The Black Racer is the New Gods version of Death, as the Jack Kirby-created character has served under Darkseid as one of his deadliest weapons. The Black Racer, who has a classic Kirby design as he rides cosmic skis, has had many hosts. The New Gods version of Death famously took over The Flash during the Darkseid War and helped defeat the supervillain. Now, in the DCeased universe, the Black Racer is flipping his role as the bringer of death and saving Big Barda from certain death.

In a new preview of DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #2 by Tom Taylor, Trevor Hairsine, Andy Lanning, and Rain Beredo from DC Comics, the comic opens with Big Barda being cured of Darkseid's Anti-Life virus. Then, after reuniting with Mister Miracle after considerable time away from him and their son Jacob, the couple returns to New Genesis. However, when they pass through the Boom Tube, they learn their home has been destroyed. Barda immediately loses control, wondering where Jacob is before a dark Boom Tube opens up. However, as the DC hero reaches through the portal, the Black Racer saves her before she is killed.

The Black Racer is the New Gods' version of Death, so seeing them save Barda before she dies while entering the dark Boom Tube is shocking. The Black Racer's entire cosmic purpose is to take the lives of New Gods whose time has come to an end. In this case, it opted to flip his mission its head, as the Black Racer once did to save his son, and make sure Barda didn't die. Considering this version of the Black Racer has a new avatar, is it possible the person acting as death has a connection to Barda or has somehow reversed its role in a world that's overcome by the unliving? It certainly seems possible.

The Black Racer's role as Death has likely become complicated in a world where Darkseid's Anti-Life Virus has changed many of the greatest heroes. As a result, the entity might have been transformed enough to take on a new cosmic purpose. At the very least, saving Big Barda shows that the Black Racer might have more control than ever before. DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #2 from DC Comics is in comic book stores tomorrow.
