In a Francesco Mattina variant cover for DC vs. Vampires #4, Wonder Woman gets a disgusting new form. The cover is being solicited as a “card stock variant,” set for release on January 25. The issue will be written by Matthew Rosenberg and James Tynion IV with interior art by Otto Schmidt, who illustrated the standard cover as well.

DC vs. Vampires already has two issues released and the plot is pretty much exactly what the title describes. The story starts as the leader of the vampires, Mary, Queen of Blood, is killed, triggering a vampire plan to take over the world. The attack is akin to an invasion, as various heroes and villains from across the DC universe are turned into vampires one at a time, unbeknownst to those around them. So far, Batman and his allies are preparing for war while Green Arrow is on his own hunt for those that have already been turned.

Wonder Woman has yet to be seen in either issue, but if Mattina’s gruesome cover is any indication, it’s possible she will be turned by issue 4, if she hasn’t been already. With beady red eyes, Wonder Woman has a Nosferatu-like appearance with two front fangs, deathly pale skin, and blood around her chin and chest. She is emerging from a coffin, which has her emblem on it, while a swarm of bats is also flying out. Whether or not those bats refer to Batman or have a more direct connection to Wonder Woman’s vampiric nature is unknown at this point.

So far, the only major hero to be turned in the series is Green Lantern. His vampiric (and arguably evil) nature has allowed readers to see what Hal Jordan would be like if his powers are fully unleashed. The most heinous thing he’s done was make a blood cocktail of Zan in a light-constructed blender. Hal wanted to turn The Flash, but his mysterious master felt that a vampiric speedster would be too thirsty for blood, leading to genocide.

Whether or not a vampiric Wonder Woman would be stronger or more devious than vampire Green Lantern is up for debate. If the cover is any indication, vampire Wonder Woman would be a lot more monstrous in nature than any of the other vampires readers have seen so far. Since Green Lantern has complete control over his powers, it stands to reason that Wonder Woman would as well. Hopefully, that’s the case, as the thought of a vampire Wonder Woman in control of the Lasso of Truth is truly terrifying.
