Today, DC Universe revealed the first sneak peek for the second season of Harley Quinn, and it gets bloody. Arriving at the end of last year, Harley Quinn was the first animated series to premiere on the DC streaming service and quickly became a hit with critics and audiences alike. The NSFW series stars Kaley Cuoco as Harley and Lake Bell as Poison Ivy, while also including the vocal talents of actors like Alan Tudyk, Ron Funches, Tony Hale, Jason Alexander, Diedrich Bader, and Christopher Meloni. New additions in this upcoming season include Alfred Molina as Mr. Freeze and Sanaa Lathan as Catwoman.

Harley Quinn arrived at at time when the character's big screen counterpart, played by Margot Robbie, got her own chance to shine in Birds of Prey (Or the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Both projects suggest a great interest in Harley, though Birds of Prey has struggled to succeed at the box office. The first season of the animated series featured a similar plotline to Birds of Prey, with Harley striking out on her own and trying to prove her worth as a villain to all of Gotham City. Season 2 looks to continue that journey, as evidenced by the sneak peek.

Posted by DC, the short clip shows Harley facing off with the Penguin (Wayne Knight). While Penguin initially has the upper hand, Harley finds a way to fight back in what could be an homage to Batman Returns. Fair warning, the clip gets bloody, but only in an animated sense. Check it out below:

DC Universe clearly wanted to keep the hype from season 1 going for season 2, for they announced season 2 on the very day season 1 ended. Harley Quinn scored an 86% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with an audience score of 85%. That means expectations will be high for season 2, though this first look promises Harley Quinn will keep its colorful and violent tone, which will surely please fans.

Aside from picking up where season 1 left off, it's not clear where Harley Quinn's story will go. One thing fans are hopeful for is a romantic relationship between Harley and Poison Ivy, something that was left out of season 1. Harley Quinn showrunner Justin Halpern assured fans it's coming, there just needs to be some proper character development first. Luckily, the second season of Harley Quinn is less than a month away, so fans hopefully won't have to wait much longer.
