DC’s Super-Pets has revealed its star-studded cast which includes Keanu Reeves and Kevin Hart. Coming off the heels of past successes like Aquaman, Shazam!, and Birds of Prey, DC seems to be moving towards a more loosely connected universe with its next waves of films which include Gunn's Suicide Squad and Reeves' Batman. As an animated film focusing on famous superheroes' pets, DC Super-Pets is expected to be a deviation from the DCEU's upcoming slate of live-action features.

The project was first announced in 2018 with The LEGO Batman Movie scribe Jared Stern as writer/director and veteran animator Sam Levine brought on later to co-direct. The two previously worked together on Wreck-It Ralph. Ever since a 10-second teaser was shown at last year’s DC FanDome, the project has been rather quiet. That was until Dwayne Johnson was announced as the voice of Krypto the Super Dog last month. Now, there are some more major casting announcements to report.

According to a video shared on The Rock’s Instagram page, DC’s League of Super-Pets has assembled an all-star voice cast around the Black Adam actor. The cast includes the aforementioned Dwayne Johnson as Krypto, Kevin Hart as Ace, Kate McKinnon, John Krasinski, Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, Diego Luna, and Keanu Reeves. Along with these castings, the video also mentions the film’s release date, May 20, 2022. Watch the video announcement below:

While Johnson will be voicing Krypto, Superman's super-powered canine, and Hart will be voicing Ace the Bat-Hound, the trusted canine companion of Batman, it is not clear which characters the rest of the cast will be voicing. The film’s synopsis mentions a flying cat, so the film is expected to feature Streaky the Supercat, but is it unclear who will voice Supergirl's superpowered pet cat. Other original members of DC’s Legion of Super-Pets include Beppo the Super-Monkey and Comet the Super-Horse with the shape-shifting alien Proty II joining later on.

For now, it remains unclear which of these super-pets will also be featured in DC’s upcoming film, but at least the bulk of the voice cast has been unveiled. After starring together in Central Intelligence and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and The Next Level, DC’s animated film will mark the next team-up between Johnson and Hart. With so much more yet to be revealed in terms of cast and plot, this will be the first of many DC’s Super-Pets announcements to come.
