Starfire's Fun-Loving Fashion Returns

Donna Troy Photographing Starfire

The Titans title is returning to stands this May as the iconic team rises to become the DC Universe's replacement for the Justice League. Most recently, Starfire was a major player in Teen Titans Academy, where she was the headmistress of a (mostly doomed) school for young superhero prospects. In the aftermath of Dark Crisis and the destruction of the old Titans tower, the team—including Starfire—is rebuilding its roster and its tower in Nightwing's home of Bludhaven. The Titans are set to become DC's premier team once again.

Though this issue teases a dire murder mystery for the team, this Bartel variant cover suggests a return to Starfire's fun-loving personality and fashion sense, which was once an integral part of her character. Though Starfire is, first and foremost, a warrior from the planet Tamaran, she was also once known on Earth as the supermodel Kory Anders, seen above in a page from 1988's The New Teen Titans #39 by Marv Wolfman, Eduardo Barreto, and Romeo Tanghal. If this cover is any indication, fans will hopefully see the return of Kory's fun-loving and fashion-forward personality—and her civilian identity.

In any case, this gorgeous Jen Bartel cover is the next in her street-fashion variant series, and fans can check out the artist's Nightwing variant cover for Titans #1. Even if Starfire never gets her supermodel career back in DC continuity, fans will be glad to see that history honored in covers like this one.
