Warning! Spoilers for Dark Nights: Death Metal #3 below!

The DC Universe as we know it is shrouded in darkness, as the Batman Who Laughs, Perpetua, and their evil army of Batman have taken over and shaped the world to their own design. In order to defeat the Dark Multiverse, the remaining survivors are teaming up with an unexpected character: Jarro.

Jarro is an offspring of Starro, the giant physic starfish that was the Justice League's first-ever villainous threat. After Starro was killed, one of his remaining tissue samples was stored in a jar by Batman. The miniature version of Starro grew a close bond with Batman, even going so far to call him dad. The cute, smaller Jarro is extremely powerful, possessing similar psychic abilities as Starro. In Dark Nights: Death Metal, Wonder Woman realizes that Jarro could be the key to defeating the Dark Multiverse.

In Dark Nights: Death Metal #3 by Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Jonathan Glapion, Wonder Woman, Batman, and the heroes visit New Apokolips to free Superman and those remaining heroes stuck in prison on the planet. After freeing Superman from the hold of a kaleidoscope of new kryptonite, the survivors manage to find their friends and prisoners, where Wonder Woman reveals her plan for taking down the new superpowered Batman Who Laughs and Perpetua. She says they need the help of the "most powerful hero among us," which isn't Superman, but Jarro. That's when the mini starfish (wearing an adorable little prisoner outfit) is shown and once he sees his dad, Batman, he gives him a big hug.

It's a cute moment, but how exactly is Jarro the key? His massive powers. Despite his relatively small stature, Jarro is one of the most powerful psychics in the entire universe - and with those powers, he can block the Batman Who Laughs and his minions from detecting the survivors as they try to restart the multiverse. It's a shrewd plan that puts once of DC's cutest (and most powerful) heroes at the forefront.

As unlikely as it seems that the adorably tiny Jarro is the key to defeating the Dark Multiverse, Starro offspring's psychic powers are exactly what the heroes need in order to defeat the Batman Who Laughs. Jarro proves that no matter how big or small you are, as long as you have insanely powerful abilities you'll be able to help in even the direst situations.
