Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for Harley Quinn season 1, episode 3, "So You Need A Crew?"

The latest episode of Harley Quinn revealed that the Legion of Doom have strict standards against sexism, even if it is directed against Wonder Woman. While one would expect such progressive policies from the Justice League, it's a bit shocking to see a collective of murderous criminals being so deeply committed to equality between the sexes and fair treatment in the work place.

The action of Harley Quinn season 1, episode 3, "So You Need A Crew?," focuses on Harley and her unsuccessful efforts to build a team of henchmen so that she can compete with The Joker and his gang. Poison Ivy tries to convince the despondent Harley that she can do just fine on her own and points out that Wonder Woman's enemy Doctor Psycho (who just happens to be fighting the Amazon Princess in a live news report at that moment) does just fine fighting an A-list hero without a group of minions backing him up. It's a fair point, at least until Doctor Psycho loses his temper after the backlash of Wonder Woman breaking his telekinetic grip sends him flying into a lamp post, causing him to call her an incredibly impolite expletive that is probably the worst thing you can call a woman. Harley insists, to a stunned Ivy, that if Doctor Psycho had a crew "they would have told him to use the b-word instead."

The backlash against Doctor Psycho is swift. Despite the best efforts of consulting firm UTI (Underworld Talent Inc.), there is little they can do to spin the situation to their advantage and try to make the diminutive psychic look good. In fact, things only get worse when Doctor Psycho appears on TV with his wife, Giganta, and their son, and it comes out that he mind-controlled her into believing she was in love with him. Somehow, this enrages the audience less than when Doctor Psycho loses his temper again and calls Giganta the same thing he called Wonder Woman.

Harley Quinn show Legion of Doom Press Conference

The scandal leads to Doctor Psycho being outcast by his fellow supervillains, with Lex Luthor holding a press conference condemning Doctor Psycho's actions. "We cannot condone Doctor Psycho's use of the c-word,' Luthor states, "as it does not represent our brand of evil. We hereby banish him from the Legion of Doom, the Legion of Doom Europe and the Junior Doomers of America."  Desperate to do anything that might improve his image and prove that he doesn't hate women, Doctor Psycho reluctantly agrees to take a job in Harley Quinn's gang, figuring that at least there's no way he can lose any more of his dignity.

There is some rich irony that Harley's henchmen problems should be solved by the backlash against a sexist Wonder Woman villain, given that her issues with building her gang stemmed from the inherent sexism of the supervillain business.  Most goons for hire would rather go on suicide missions into Hell with Felix Faust or even work for the likes of Kite Man than be seen working for a female villain like Harley Quinn. Thankfully, with Doctor Psycho on her side (well, sort of), it seems like things are starting to look up for Harley's dreams of supervilain stardom.
