By all accounts, comics have plenty of weirdness coming out of them. That's just the way they are, weaving intricate yet bizarre stories ripe with weird friendships. While many of those friendships stay close to Earth, the likes of the intergalactic space cops, the Green Lanterns have broken said friendship boundaries.

The interesting thing about the Green Lantern Corps is how many there are. Fans know of Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart, two of the more prominent members, but others have formed intricate friendships over the years. From fellow heroes, out-of-this-world characters, and vicious villains, the bizarre friendships are endless.

Doiby Dickles

Allan Scott finds Doiby Dickles making a fool of himself

Long before Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardener or Kyle Radner bore the name Green Lantern, there was Alan Scott, the Golden Age GL. Although his ring was more magic-based than extraterrestrial, Scott still managed to make plenty of weird friends along the way like Doiby Dickles.

Beyond having a fun name, Dickles was a taxi driver and Scott's sidekick, aiding him on missions of all sorts. A taxi driver helping a Green Lantern raises an eyebrow for sure but the fact that Dickles would fall for and marry an alien queen? That's a whole other level of bizarre, even by GL standards.

Green Arrow

Green Arrow and Green Lantern untied together

When audiences think of intergalactic cops, they look beyond the earthly plane. Yet, given the Green Lanterns have been members of the Justice Society and League, there's still plenty of earthly connections including the long friendship between Hal Jordan and Oliver Queen, the Green Arrow.

Beyond their names having the same color scheme to them, Hal and Oliver are pretty different. One protects the entire galaxy. The other uses boxing glove arrows to fight crime. Still, over the course of comics, the pair have formed an odd but endearing friendship, leading to several team-up comics and classic stories.

C'hp

Ch'p arrives on earth and takes on Superman

Now, the Green Lantern Corps is full of dozens of bizarre characters and friendships. From Killowog to Arisa, there are plenty who would qualify for this list. While not everyone will make the cut, unfortunately, it's worth noting the likes of C'hp, a talking squirrel.

A long-time GL who became friends with Hal Jordan among others, C'hp is as weird as they get. Seeing human and even alien Green Lanterns working alongside a little squirrel in a green outfit and mask is cute rather than terrifying and overall weird. Yet, it should be noted that C'hp did take down Superman in the superhero game Injustice universe s0 as weird as his friendship with Jordan and the rest is, he's a worthy member of the Corps.

Jade

Jade Returns From The Dead

Death never seems to be the end for comic heroes, especially for someone like Jade. The daughter of Alan Scott, Jade ended up becoming a Green Lantern herself and got into a romantic relationship and friendship with the likes of Kyle Rayner. Then, during a battle with the Thangarrians, Jade tragically died... but not really.

While Jade's body perished, her consciousness stayed around along with her powers. Eventually, they would merge into Kyle but even after that, Jade would still make appearances in DC until she was brought back after the events of Blackest Night. Then, just when everything seemed normal, Jade vanished again during the New 52 era of DC, muddying her friendships further.

Gnaxos

Gnnaxos warns Hal Jordan of the Guardians

There always seems to be a trend with killer robots, that they never stay on the path of evil for long. For Gnaxos, this was more than true. Created to destroy the Green Lanterns, Gnaxos went into battle against said adversaries and nearly took them down.

However, Gnaxos ended up going against his programming like so many others before and after him and ended up siding with the Green Lanterns. The friendship with the Corps was short-lived though as Gnaxos was obliterated by his masters.

Justice League Odyssey

The Justice League Odyessy battles the aliens of the Ghost Sector

Although the Green Lantern Corps is the law enforcement of the galaxy, it doesn't hurt to have another Justice League. Back in 2019, DC released Justice League Odyssey, a story detailing the adventure of Azrael, Starfire, Cyborg, and GL Jessica Cruz as they ventured into uncharted space and teamed up with one of DC's and comics biggest bad: Darkseid.

Granted, the alliance that the group made was rocky and ultimately fell apart but it was cool to see these unlikely heroes teaming up. Of course, Darkseid ended up double-crossing everyone, brought back Apokolips, restored himself, and put Azrael, Cyborg, and Starfire under his control. Not to mention Jessica died, came back with Omega powers, and then teamed up with Orion, Blackfire, and Dex-Starr. All in all, a weird mix of friendships and alliances in an equally bizarre story.

Darkstars

The Darkstars fly off to battle

Justice League Oddessy wasn't the first GL offshoot to venture into space. After Hal Jordan became Parallax and decimated the Corps and Guardians, the remaining Lanterns were without a corps. However, help came in the form of the Controllers, an offshoot of the Guardians who created a new peacekeeping organization: Darkstars.

With John Stewart as the leader and recruiting characters like Donna Troy, the Darkstars brought order to the galaxy with new recruits under the shady eye of the Controllers. Eventually, the Darkstars broke up and the unlikely allies parted ways although the Controllers would revive the program in DC's "Rebirth" era under a more villainous guise.

Arkillo

Arkillo and Guy Gardner team-up

The most notable and well-known GL villains almost always seem to hail from the Yellow Lantern corps. Of course, some fans don't remember or even know of Arkillo, a deranged alien who served the Yellow Lanterns as a brutal enforcer. During the events of "Rebirth" though, the Yellow Lanterns joined up with the Greens and Arkillo formed a reluctant partnership with Guy Gardner.

Despite one being a hulking alien and the other a hot-tempered human, Arkillo and Gardener worked well as partners after Guy beat Arkillo into submission that is. Still, after the two corps split apart, Arkillo remained an ally of Gardener, even coming to his aid at times.

Hector Hammond

Hector Hammond hears of Hal Jordans return

It's always interesting to see villains in more than one light. Green Lantern villains always seem to come in different shades. Many of the villains do take a shine to Hal Jordan and one, in particular, is Hector Hammond, a powerful telepath with a massive head and an obsession with the Green Lanterns.

Although many audiences recall Hammond from the failed Green Lantern movie which was a box office bomb, his relationship runs far deeper. His obsession went so far, Hammond ended up helping Hal in his own twisted way, becoming "friends" with Jordan. It was a mainly one-sided and ultimately bizarre friendship between foes.

Sinestro

Sinestro joins the Yellow Lantern Corps

Without a doubt, Sinestro has one of the deepest connections to all the Green Lanterns. Beginning as a member of the corps himself, Sinestro was a friend of Abin Sur, the lantern who died and gave his ring to Hal Jordan. Sinestro for a while trained Jordan before turning towards the Yellow Lanterns and rebelling against his allies.

Yet, as the comics move on, Sinestro's villainous streak would always change, with the character switching between hero and villain constantly. Time again, he would form a grudging respect for the other lanterns, including Jordan, forming a tenuous friendship that would span the years.
