With the recent announcement of a Wonder Woman game, DC fans have yet another project to look forward to, with a burgeoning roster of upcoming titles already revealed for 2022 and after. Out of the seven DC games announced, most have a release window set rather than exact dates. There are also games that, while not specifically DC games, will feature the publisher's characters. MultiVersus is one such example, with the game featuring villains from the DC Universe, including Harley Quinn, Batman, and Superman.

After most of the DC video games released in the past decade have centered around Batman, the upcoming slate of titles will bring much-needed diversity. With titles centered on the Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and Super-Pets, DC's video games may catch up with Marvel. Going further, there are also likely to be more unannounced DC projects currently in the works, with WB Games Montréal rumored to be working on another title after Gotham Knights, and the potential for NetherRealm to make a third Injustice game also being on the table.

Three of the upcoming DC games, including MultiVersus, are tentatively scheduled for a 2022 release, although frequent game delays due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic could shuffle things around. As game development commonly starts and stops several times during the pandemic, publishers are likely waiting until titles near the end of their development to confirm when they'll be ready. While additional announcements and cancellations are possible, the DC video game slate stands at seven total titles releasing in 2022 and later.

Initially a 2022 release, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is being developed by Rocksteady Studios and will take place in the Batman: Arkham universe. The title is already differentiating itself from other DC games by featuring a playable cast of villains forced to eliminate members of a corrupted Justice League. The team of four playable characters consists of Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, and King Shark.

The upcoming title's gameplay was revealed during The Game Awards 2021, showcasing Task Force X relying on their shooting skills to take down an evil Flash. Villainous versions of Justice League members aren't completely alien to DC video games, as the Injustice franchise previously depicted evil iterations of some of the publisher's most iconic heroes. Although initially slated for a 2022 release, Rocksteady confirmed earlier in the year that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League would release in 2023 instead.

Gotham Knights Launches October 25, 2022

Is Gotham Knights' release delayed

While rumors of another delayed release date for Gotham Knights persisted at the beginning of the year, WB Games Montréal's Batman spin-off is now confirmed to release October 25, two years after its reveal. Gotham Knights will allow players to control Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, and Red Hood to battle the Court of Owls and other villains of the Dark Knight. While set in Batman's iconic city, the title's narrative centers on the Caped Crusader's allies - Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, and Red Hood - stepping up after Bruce Wayne's death.

WB Games Montréal has steadily revealed more information surrounding Gotham Knights, releasing a gameplay demo of Nightwing and Red Hood that sees them taking on petty criminals in Gotham's open world. The main threat of the game, however, will be the shadowy Court of Owls. Batman's former sidekicks will also need to be wary of foes like the Penguin as they navigate the aftermath of the Dark Knight's death.

Monolith's Wonder Woman Game Doesn't Have A Release Date

On top of a trailer for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, WB Games also revealed a Wonder Woman title at the Game Awards 2021. Developed by Monolith Productions, the studio behind the Middle-earth franchise, the teaser that debuted at the awards show featured Diana's mother calling her home to face a new threat in Themiscyra. Hippolyta's call also hints that Wonder Woman must "level up" to defeat the enemy, setting up a progressive story showcasing some of the hero's strongest powers.

As very few details surfaced after the reveal, the title is likely early in development. Previous DC games announced early in their development cycle tend to take a few years to materialize. In any case, a game led by Wonder Woman has been long overdue, and given Monolith's past work on Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War, it should hopefully be worth the wait.

DC Heroes & Villains Will Release In 2022

Ludia Games' mobile puzzle game, DC Heroes and Villains, features an expansive roster of DC heroes and villains. The game appears to feature the common puzzle mechanics of matching a set of same-colored shapes, but this time to fight opponents from the DC world. A Dec 14 Tweet from the official DC Heroes and Villains Twitter account soft-confirmed a 2022 release year, although the window itself isn't mentioned on its website.

The next DC game released will be DC League of Super-Pets: The Adventures of Krypto and Ace, in the Spring 2022 release window. Gotham Knights and MultiVersus will also arrive this year, while players will have to wait a bit longer to get their hands on Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice LeagueWonder Woman and The Wolf Among Us 2.
