Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Stargirl: The Lost Children #2 A big criticism of Arrow on The CW is that it basically turned Green Arrow into Batman, and a recent comic called the show out on it.
With the return of the infinite Earth's following Dark Crisis, the Justice Society and their successors have new stories within the DC Universe. This includes Stargirl, who is going against her parents’ wishes to investigate a series of old-time sidekicks that have gone missing. These are sidekicks to Golden Age heroes that have largely been forgotten by both the public and the DC fan base. She has even teamed up with Emiko Queen, also known as the Red Arrow, to find them.
In Stargirl: The Lost Children #2 by Geoff Johns and Todd Nauck, Stargirl and Amiko head back to Oliver Queen's base of operations to regroup and go over the clues they discovered. Amiko has access to it because she is Oliver’s sister. This base of operations, known as the Arrowcave, is very similar to Batman's Batcave. There are trophies on display as well as different Green Arrow suits. It's such an ovet copy of the Batcave that Stargirl can't help but mention how badly Green Arrow is trying to be Batman.
Green Arrow Wants To Be Batman
There are some similar themes between Oliver Queen and Bruce Wayne in the comics. Besides having personas as billionaire playboys, they have a similar naming habit for their respective caves and gadgets. However, The CW show Arrow takes this to an extreme. Green Arrow in the show is much darker and deals with themes of vengeance similar to the Dark Knight. Also, many of Batman's villains, such as Ra's al Ghul, are prominent in the series.
Even Green Arrow’s Arrowcave in later seasons looks like a sophisticated Batcave with computers and costumes in cases. This was not lost on fans who noticed Batman villains like the Royal Flush Gang and Prometheus had prominent roles in the series. So the fact that a DC comic pokes fun of this is pretty poignant, especially since Stargirl also just wrapped up her own show on the CW. So while Batman and Green Arrow certainly may look like reflections of one another in the comic world, it's hilarious that the comics would call out the Arrowverse for its blatant merging of the two.
