Rumor: WB SDCC 2018 Panel To Include Aquaman Trailer & Shazam! Teaser

A new rumor suggests the plan for the DC Films portion of Warner Bros' panel at SDCC 2018 includes hyping Aquaman, Wonder Woman 2, Shazam! and The Batman. Aside from the critical and financial success of Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman, the burgeoning DC Films cinematic universe has been beleaguered by issues and negative public perception. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad were successful at the box office, but received mixed-to-negative reviews. Justice League was a miss both with critics and at the box office. The result is that the future of DC Films' franchise remains constantly discussed among fans.

Next month, Comic-Con International in San Diego will kick off a full four days celebrating comic- and genre-oriented media. As in previous years, Warner Bros. is expected to host a panel, part of which will be dedicated to its ongoing series of DC Comics movies. Last year, Warner Bros. revealed the tentative slate of upcoming DC Films, which at the time included Suicide Squad 2, Batgirl, and Green Lantern Corps, among others. Now, a new rumor pertaining to Warner Bros' panel at SDCC 2018 hints at what fans can expect from the panel.

Twitter user Daniel R revealed he's heard the DC Films portion of Warner Bros' SDCC panel will include an Aquaman trailer and discussion, a Shazam! movie teaser, some artwork from the Wonder Woman sequel teasing Kristen Wiig's Cheetah, as well as an appearance from The Batman star Ben Affleck and director Matt Reeves. However, it's best to take this all with a grain of salt, as it's only a rumor for now.

Batman Movie Matt Reeves Director Reasons

With that said, at least part of this plan would fall in line with Warner Bros' past DC Films' presentations. Aquaman is the next DC movie to hit theaters, so it'll receive the bulk of the attention. Plus, since Shazam! hits theaters before next year's SDCC, it's likely some kind of teaser will debut (the first trailer for Wonder Woman debuted at SDCC 2016, after all). Wonder Woman 2 is more of a tossup because it will have only just started filming. As a result, Warner Bros. may unveil some kind of artwork - concept art, key art, or a poster - or, after the recent Wonder Woman 2 logo reveal, may confirm the sequel's official title.

As for the appearance of Affleck and Reeves, that seems to be the most unlikely aspect of this rumor, if only because the movie doesn't yet have a release date. The Batman has been plagued by all kinds of rumors about Affleck's involvement and when the film could possibly go before cameras. Undoubtedly, SDCC would be a prime opportunity to reveal concrete plans for The Batman, especially since Affleck spent much of last year's Comic-Con reaffirming his dedication to playing Bruce Wayne. Considering all the speculation and rumors surrounding the project, it would make sense for Warner Bros. to give fans firm confirmation of the film.

Of course, all that being said, this report concerning Warner Bros' DC panel at SDCC is still just a rumor. Studios tend to keep their plans under wraps so as not to spoil any reveals for fans who line up for access to Hall H. Unfortunately, that means we won't know exactly what Warner Bros. and DC Films have planned until the day of their panel - which also hasn't been announced just yet. Still, with about a month and a half until the convention, fans won't have to wait too long to see what will be revealed at SDCC 2018.
