The DC Universe is vast, it contains multitudes; heroes, villains, sidekicks, and vampires. The DCU is not a hotbed of vampirism, but it has underground armies led by powerful and evil vampires and vampires that are dedicated to stopping them. The first vampire in the DCU was in 1936, fighting Doctor Occult a creation of Jerry Siegel, and artist Joe Shuster who would also create Superman. Occult won. Batman would also fight a vampire in 1939, dispatching the nest with an automatic full of silver bullets.

The modern age DC vampire can be much more explicit - and bloody - than in the Silver or Bronze Ages, and there are more than ever before in the New/Old/Prime Earths. They range in power and strength, in age and organization, in good and in evil. Some are ageless and gather more power for the battle against humankind, others gather forces against those who would feed on humans. All are DC's most powerful vampires.
