When Earth was in peril at the hands (tentacles) of Starro in the 1960s, the greatest heroes came together to defeat him. Knowing that other potential threats just like him, or worse, could be out there, those heroes formed the Justice League, a team that would be around in DC Comics for years to come.

Each of the heroes that join the Justice League is brought in because they have a particular skill set that can be of good use against the many villains the team encounters in battle. It's not always the strongest members of the team that take down the villain, as the heroes who utilize combat skills and good tactics usually come out on top.

The Flash - Barry Allen

The Flash Hall of Justice

When Barry Allen was struck by that lightning bolt that mixed with chemicals, it gave him the powers of super speed. While super speed is an incredibly useful power, the extra skills that he has been able to develop due to his super speed are even more impressive and make The Flash a fierce competitor in battle.

Running at top speeds, Barry can generate incredible force behind his punches, as well as throw his enemies through buildings. With his arms, he can also create wind tunnels to blow back his enemies and conjure up lightning bolts that he can throw. Barry is so fast that he can additionally move at a speed that makes time feel as if it is frozen, allowing him to strategize about the best tactic to take out his enemies.

Hawkgirl - Shayera Hol

It took far too long for Shayera Hol to be admitted into the Justice League, as her partner Hawkman was admitted first, and the league originally only allowed one member with similar sets of skills. Thankfully, they moved past that rule, and Shayera was brought in, but one could argue that she should have gotten the spot over Hawkman originally, considering she saved his life on several occasions.

Shayera has a knack for the tactical skills necessary to catch a criminal, which she picked up on the Thanagarian Police force. She also gave herself wings for enhanced flight maneuvers. Add in her weapon mastery with her trusty mace, and Shayera is tough to take down.

Black Canary - Dinah Lance

Black Canary ready to fight in DC Comics.

Dinah Lance picked up the Black Canary moniker from her mother, the original Black Canary. The hero game was in her blood, but to be an even greater fighter, she trained under the tutelage of Ted Grant, better known as Wildcat. With his training, Dinah became arguable the most skilled martial artist on the entire planet, vaulting her up the ranks within the Justice League.

One skill Dinah did specifically inherit from her mother is her famous Canary Cry, a sonic attack that has the power to shatter some of the strongest substances and incapacitate most foes. Once Dinah has dazed her enemies, all of her combat skills allow her to gain the tactical advantage and take down anyone that gets in her way - as recently seen with the live-action incarnation of Black Canary in 2020's Birds of Prey.

Green Lantern - John Stewart

Earth-3 John Stewart

No Green Lantern may be more decorated than John Stewart, who has been the leader of the Green Lantern Corps as well as serving in their honor guard. John's background as a decorated soldier in the US Marine Corps led to the Guardians making him a Green Lantern in the first place.

John's tactical leadership is not only the greatest amongst the human Green Lanterns but maybe all of the Justice League. He has a mastery of his ring that no other lantern does, making some of the most intricate but powerful constructs. However, while his ring may be the source of his power, John's combat experience makes him more than formidable in hand-to-hand combat.

Aquaman - Arthur Curry

Arthur Curry is half of the surface world and half of Atlantis, making him the one person that can unite the two, and as King of Atlantis, he can do that. Additionally, Arthur's mixed geneology affords him abilities that no others of the Atlantean race have, including enhanced strength and fierce speed in the water. And, as Aquaman, his ability to utilize the water in combat through the King's Trident also comes in handy on land.

To be the best leader of the powerful Atlantean army, he has made sure to properly train himself in hand-to-hand combat, with help from his fellow Justice League members. Arthur's set of skills allow him to not only be a proud military leader but one of the most powerful members of the Justice League.

Batman - Bruce Wayne

Batman Reptilian Bully

Bruce Wayne doesn't have enhanced abilities or mystical artifacts to assist him, but you wouldn't know considering what he has accomplished without those things. In fact, lack of those advantages probably makes Bruce all that much stronger. In any case, Batman's mastery of all martial arts makes him one of the toughest combatants on Earth, as he's able to counter any opponent.

Batman also has a genius-level intellect, only rivaled by the likes of Lex Luthor. That intellect comes in handy with his gadgetry as well, allowing Bruce to develop weaponry that can be customized for whichever opponent he is fighting. Batman's tactical skills are so admirable that he has passed them down to the rest of his Bat-Family, creating even more heroes that can protect Gotham and the rest of the planet.

Superman - Clark Kent

Kal-El, the last son of Krypton, was just a baby when he was sent to Earth after the destruction of his home planet. Upon his arrival on his new homeworld, Clark would go on to become Earth's symbol of hope, the face of the Justice League, and one of the the planet's most powerful heroes. Furthermore, by utilizing solar energy, Superman can perform some of the most insurmountable feats of strength ever seen.

The skills that Clark has developed over time on Earth make him a formidable opponent, such as his iconic heat vision. Sure, Clark may do most of his fighting with his fists, but when your fists pack the wallop that his do, that's a good enough strategy on its own in most cases.

Martian Manhunter - J'onn J'onzz

J'onn J'onzz was already one of the most powerful citizens of Mars before he came to Earth, as the Martian race is one of the strongest that exists, and Martians have several special skills at their disposal. J'onn can shapeshift, grow his body to massive sizes, phase through objects, and even go invisible - all of which are useful in battle.

However, the most powerful weapon in Martian Manhunter's arsenal would be his telepathy, which allows him to get inside the minds of his enemies against their will. Once in there, he can use mind-control to make his foe do as he pleases. J'onn can figure out what an enemy is thinking and stop them just with his mind, but if that isn't enough, he's not afraid to get his hands dirty too.

Captain Atom - Nathaniel Adam

Captain Atom unleashing his power.

Nathaniel Adam was a decorated member of the United States Air Force, but after being framed for a war crime, he was forced to participate in a military experiment to avoid death. He may have survived the test, but his physiology changed, as Nathaniel awoke with metallic skin and a bevy of new skills.

As Captain Atom, Adam can absorb and manipulate both energy and matter. He can manipulate his power levels to increase his senses and strength, allowing him to hold his own with the strongest warriors in the world.  His skills are almost endless, and combined with his militaristic persona in combat, Captain Atom is clearly one of the most dangerous heroes to come across.

Wonder Woman - Diana Prince

The island of Themyscira is home to the Amazons, one of the strongest warrior races Earth - or any planet - has ever seen. All of the warriors possess immense combat skills, but Diana is the greatest amongst them. Bestowed with the power of the Gods of Olympus, Diana has the strength, speed, and endurance that can be bested by almost no one. She has immense reflexes as well, and she can use her bracelets to quickly block gunfire.

As Wonder Woman, Diana is the most skilled hand-to-hand combatant the Amazonians have ever had, and she has utilized that for mastery of weaponry, which includes swords, shields, and her lasso of truth. She is truly a born hero and leader, taking charge in many of the battles the Justice League how encountered. Simply put, Diana is arguably the greatest warrior amongst the team.
